About this listen

A common-sense guide to living rich—instead of dying rich

Imagine if by the time you died, you did everything you were told to. You worked hard, saved your money, and looked forward to financial freedom when you retired.

The only thing you wasted along the way was—your life.

Die with Zero presents a startling new and provocative philosophy as well as practical guide on how to get the most out of your money—and out of your life. It's intended for those who place lifelong memorable experiences far ahead of simply making and accumulating money for one's so-called Golden Years.

In short, Bill Perkins wants to rescue you from over-saving and under-living. Regardless of your age, Die with Zero will teach you Perkins' plan for optimizing your life, stage by stage, so you're fully engaged and enjoying what you've worked and saved for.

You'll discover how to maximize your lifetime memorable moments with experience bucketing, how to convert your earnings into priceless memories by following your net worth curve, and find out how to navigate whether to invest in, or delay, a meaningful adventure based on your spend curve and personal interest rate.

Using his own life experiences as well as the inspiring stories and cautionary tales of others—and drawing on eye-opening insights about time, money, and happiness from psychological science and behavioral finance—Perkins makes a timely, convincing, and contrarian case for living large.

I love everything u stated in this book.. It totally makes sense to live your optimal life now that you can with keeping in mind that you do have to save for your later years. I have a friend who is so frugal because she is saving for retirement and is ‘waiting’ for retirement to enjoy her life and money. It is sad that some people dont enjoy their younger life because they are preoccupied with saving for retirement. Thank you again for bringing light of living your life while you can because when you get older YOU CANNOT DO WHAT YOU COULD OF DONE WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER AND AGILE! People live your life while you can and minimize accumulating too much unnecessary crap and use that money to live the laugh you can live AND BUILD MEMORIES INSTEAD!

Love it!!!

I used to make a joke about wanting to 'die penniless' but the trick was to 'get the timing right.' It is not about dying without money. That part is easy.

I wanted to make my money, then have great experiences, and then give away what is leftover without waiting until I turn 90 to do it.

That is what this book is about for me. More broadly, don't put off waiting to live because you are saving for something that will probably never happen. Annuities, insurance, etc. can cover those events.

Although I was already familiar with most of the options he discussed, I hadn't thought about them in this way. Bill keeps things simple and practical, but still offers novel ways of looking at the topics.

For instance, I already knew the stories of Chuck Feeny and John D. Arnold, whom bill mentions in the book. I knew what they did, and how they did it after listening to interviews/documentaries about them. Yet still, I feel I got something extra that I didn't know before. Perhaps that is because of Bill's relationship with John D. Arnold.

There are great action-based suggestions at the end of each chapter, Also, the bonus downloads for signing up for his email list are pretty useful as well.

Don't put off waiting until someday to enjoy your life. To paraphrase many people before me: "'Someday' isn't on the calendar."

Best book I have read on the subject...

My mother died at the age of 53 with millions in her account and a heart full of dreams. This has opened my mind to start living. Thank you.

Interesting perspective and outlook on saving for retirement. The content was barely enjoyable behind the staggeringly poor reading.

Good Message, Poor Reading

Intuitively, I’ve lived my life this way, but it is reassuring to have someone put it on paper. I now know that I am not alone in the way I look I value my life.

I’m 53 and I look back and see how I could have done things very differently. But alas, I have the future ahead of me and I look forward to implementing many, many of these changes in my own life to maximize life enjoyment and die with close to zero. Bill is exceptional at reading the book he authored. And his ideas were conveyed superbly. Thank you so much, Bill!

Fresh life-enhancing perspective!
