About this listen

"First came the days of the plague. Then came the dreams. Dark dreams that warned of the coming of the dark man. The apostate of death, his worn-down boot heels tramping the night roads. The warlord of the charnel house and Prince of Evil. His time is at hand. His empire grows in the west and the Apocalypse looms."

For hundreds of thousands of fans who read The Stand in its original version and wanted more, this new edition is Stephen King's gift. And those who are listening to The Stand for the first time will discover a triumphant and eerily plausible work of the imagination that takes on the issues that will determine our survival.

Great book. A very long one, but never boring. You keep coming back. A few insights on human nature, history and possibilities

Long and entertaining

Such a great book, and such an amazing narrator too! Just the perfect combination, I wish it never had to end (which is something, after like 50hours of listening)

Not nearly as engaging as his other work. First one I've struggled to get through. Still damn good though.

Not King's best work

Y'all, let me tell you 'bout "The Stand" by Stephen King. This book is a true masterpiece of horror fiction, a magnum opus that will leave you breathless from beginning to end. I first read this when I was about 13 or 14 I guess (must have been before 1986, because we were still living in "the old house" an me lying on the couch in the living room, reading it, but I digress).

The characters in this book are some of the most fully realized and complex that I have ever encountered in my long career as a constant reader. From Stu Redman to Frannie Goldsmith, each one of them is so finely drawn that they practically leap off the page and into your heart.

And the story itself? Well, let me just say that Stephen King has outdone himself here. "The Stand" is a tour de force of apocalyptic horror, a tale of good versus evil that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

But what really sets this book apart, in my humble opinion, is the sense of dread that permeates every page. King is a master of atmosphere, and the world he creates in "The Stand" is one that is at once terrifying and all too believable.

So if you're looking for a book that will keep you up at night, that will make you question everything you thought you knew about the world around you, then look no further than "The Stand." This is Stephen King at his very best, and it doesn't get much better than that.

Scary, gory at times but gripping story which does a good job in touching on human behaviour laced with fantasy and American style superstition

Great story great narrator

Simply put this is a must read!!!!!. There a number of different characters and I found it easier to write the names down somewhere so that I could refer to it when I forgot a characters story but it is a minor thing. The book is simply great. Hands down!!!!
