About this listen

Disappear into the world of the Sunday Times best-selling Chocolat....

Faith. Secret. Magic. Murder....

Vianne Rocher has settled down. Lansquenet-sous-Tannes, the place that once rejected her, has finally become her home. With Rosette, her youngest child, she runs her chocolate shop in the square, talks to her friends on the river, is part of the community. Even Reynaud, the priest, has become a friend.

But when old Narcisse, the florist, dies, leaving a parcel of land to Rosette and a written confession to Reynaud, the life of the sleepy village is once more thrown into disarray. Then the opening of a mysterious new shop in the place of the florist's across the square - one that mirrors the chocolaterie, and has a strange appeal of its own - seems to herald a change: a confrontation, a turbulence - even, perhaps, a murder....

Would have loved it more if someone else was reading it. It was hard to differentiate between the different characters as her voice never changed. Overall story was as usual very enjoyable.

Enjoyable

Equally enchanting and moving. A poignant window into loss and love’s return. Harris is a masterful storyteller.

The story is passable but was ruined for me as it was read by the author. Most of the time I had no idea who was talking as she used the same voice for every character. It's a shame when a book is ruined by its own author. If you must, buy the book in paper or kindle and avoid the audible version, I almost returned the book a dozen times, but made it to the end. Your mileage may vary

Please don't read your own books.

Well, that was bad😣
I can’t believe Joanne did this to me, the reader who has listened to Chocolat and The Lollipop Shoes so many times that I could quote them word for word. Seems like it’s not the main character Vianne, but the writer who’s lost her faith and magic. I’m sorry to say that this book seems extremely rushed, meant to get sales purely😔
The writing is chaotic and so repetitive that it made me question the fact it was Joanne Harris who actually wrote this book. It doesn’t even look like a Chocolat sequel as lots of the characters’ qualities and descriptions are horribly conflicting.
I listened to the book twice, having decided to give it a second chance, but - no. I love the writer’s books, she’s always been my favorite, but I wish I’d never read Strawberry Thief.
And lastly, please let Juliet Stevenson do the narration. Her voice and style are amazing and she’s definitely responsible for 40% of the charm and mystery of Chocolat and Lollipop Shoes🙈

I regret reading this book, the magic is gone :(
