About this listen

When American covert operative Chase Fulton takes a meeting with a mysterious figure, who claims to hold firsthand knowledge of never-before-revealed information that promises to change Chase’s life forever, an unsanctioned mission and a terrifying journey into the depths of his psyche are launched, leaving both Chase’s future, as well as his past, in question.

Having spent the years since his potentially catastrophic injury growing stronger physically, as well as mentally, and as Chase takes one more stride toward mirroring the achievements of his mentor, he is faced with a fight that may leave his already battle-torn body with wounds too deep to heal and covered by the blood of a man who may have never existed.

Loyalties are tested, and fortitude is tried, as three decades of history are torn apart in search of a man who could be nothing more than a lie told to destroy one of America’s greatest warriors and shred Chase’s faith like sails in a hurricane’s terrible blow.

Can Chase overcome the mysteries of the past and defeat an enemy against whom he may be powerless? From the scorching beaches of the Florida Keys, to the impoverished jungles of Guatemala, walk alongside Chase Fulton and experience the soul-shaking agony of the conflict that may ultimately be the undoing of not only his life, but also his very soul.

I stayed up past my bedtime.

Cap knows how to write an adventure /action story. And also how to verbalize the sense of family that men and women who face trouble together feel about their "siblings". And in this story he addresses/examines the statement " You can pick your friends but not your family".

Confusing and contradictory despite my 5 stars

I really enjoy this series and will continue until the end. However there are a few big issues I have with Chase and I’m not sure the author realizes these issues or if he has some long term growth plan for the man-child.

Chase is an elite assassin with many years and many missions under his belt AND he has (or will soon have) a PHD in psychology. You would think he would be wise beyond his years with all that experience, right? Nope! His actions (at times) with his team and marriage to Penny (the most unhealthy relationship portrayed in any book I’ve read, and I’ve listened to a few thousand) are beyond childish. I’m not talking about the ribbing with the guys part, that’s funny, but the frequent outbursts of stupidity (jumping to conclusions at one statement, not letting others talk), falling into dreamland (frequently written as “coming out of my stupor”), rash thoughts and actions and the many, many instances of “it’s a long story”. The lack of concise communication between characters and the author dragging out the making of one point over three chapters drive me insane. These characters should be familiar with giving a sit-rep but no one seems to know how to get to the point. Ever.

Idk… maybe the author thinks it makes Chase out to be more human with the boyish faults but it doesn’t… especially in this genre. (Unless this is a teen category) Then there’s the Chase/Penny marriage. Again… Maybe the author thinks he’s portraying a grand deep love between two people but it’s not. It’s dysfunctional at best and I find nothing romantic about their interactions and in fact think they must be the most shallow couple in the Chase universe. It just makes Chase look like heartsick boy mooning after a girl who doesn’t appreciate him and that reminds me of high school. Isn’t this book about an elite assassin?? (Teen category?)

Also…. What happened with the supposed Secret Service coverup and assassination of the president a few books back? That’s the other thing that bothers me. Sometimes stories are given an ending without real resolutions.

He does it again

Cap Daniels really does a great job with these characters. After 18 books they feel like old friends and you want to know what’s going on in their lives. PJ Ochlan brings them to life. Really it’s a delightful way to spend a credit and your time.

Perfect

Every single book in this series is written and performed perfectly I have every single one and am mad when I finish them, not knowing if there will be another. I have downloaded every one so as to listen again at a later date.

Brothers in Harm

I believe your have shown unbelievable restraint with the Chase foot/no foot jabs. Mostly my daughter could've anticipated and written better ones, but still they are funny. Found his unknown/unheard-of brother and then shoots him 20 times. I get it BUT 20 times, jeez! So now the CIA is in Chase and the team's crosshairs, can't wait.

Silly soap opera plot

Fall short of expectations by introducing a not so compelling plot line. Disappointing investment of entertainment time.
