About this listen
"I have quite a story to tell you. My next announcement is that I will be going away for a long time. You see, today, March 8th, 2025, you know me as Mitchell Church, but that is not my true name. My birth name is McDougal of Inverness, I was born in the year of our Lord 1541, and this is my story...."
So, what does a 16th-century Scotsman, two opposing alien races, three countries, and four centuries have in common with the Loch Ness Monster? Join McDougal as he travels around the world and into space in his quest to save and protect his new friends, the Tacharan. Or as the world knows them, The Loch Ness Monster!

Story
The ice is coming. It was the last thing we expected, but the world is freezing. A new ice age has dawned. Billions have fled the glaciers. A cataclysmic war is coming. In orbit, a group of scientists are running the Winter Experiments, a last-ditch attempt to understand why the planet is cooling. None of the climate models they build make sense. But then they discover an anomaly, an unexplained variation in solar radiation...and something else. Close to the burning edge of the sun, they catch a fleeting glimpse of something that shouldn’t be there....

Story
At his death in 1988, Robert A. Heinlein left a legacy that almost single-handedly defined modern science fiction. But one of Heinlein's masterpieces was never finished. In 1955, he began work on Variable Star, a powerful and passionate tale of two young lovers driven apart by pride, power, and the vastness of interstellar time and space. Now, the Heinlein estate has authorized award-winning author Spider Robinson to expand his outline into a full-length novel. And the result is vintage Heinlein.

They first appear as a series of dots on astronomical plates, heading from Saturn directly toward Earth. Since the ringed planet carries no life, scientists deduce the mysterious ship to be a visitor from another star. The world's frantic efforts to signal the aliens go unanswered. Story
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

Story
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Very Entertaining!
This story is a very entertaining one! Without giving the plot away, the story is about a young boy building a relationship with Loch Ness, which I did not expect to be so fascinating. The book exceeded all my expectations, it is a phenomenally written story that entertains you until the very end!

Great reimagining of Loch Ness (Nessie)
This story had me drawn in from the very beginning. The author’s take on Nessie and her lore is remarkable. It gives the “why didn’t I think of that” feeling. The MC is wonderful and heartfelt at his core and that makes him someone you root for with ease. The pace is smooth and has no let down points. The narrator, Tony Atherton, blew me away with his reading and the added effects he seamlessly wove into Keith’s incredible tale. At one point he even sings an old Scottish song as three different singers and it was amazing! There’s nothing I don’t love about this story. I’ll be grabbing the next one immediately! I have to know where it goes from here. Highly recommend this one. Especially if you love the story of Loch Ness! Trust me, it’s tremendous!

Great Story!
I am not one to listen to audiobooks much, I prefer the physical feel and sense of a book in my hands and words on a page. This book does have the option to read on kindle and so forth, but I experienced it through audible and I could not be more pleased. This book was fascinating and intriguing and grabbed my attention from the start. The fantastical elements mixed with theory and intense plot development kept the exposition moving without me even realizing how deep the story was beginning to go.
It is about Nessie mixed with out-of-world elements and science fiction. Too much would give the story away, but I had to do double takes throughout listening to remind myself that this was fiction! The author does a fantastic job of getting his facts and resources on the topics throughout the book clear to the point where you contemplate whether this fiction book is possible. Those are my favorite kinds.
The narrator on audible, Tony Atherton, deserves praise as well. His tone was consistent, yet he wove in those singular moments of mood change and made the listener feel as if on a roller coaster of their own emotions. It felt like the narration of a movie. The description and detail in the book were so vivid that if you close your eyes and sit back while listening, your imagination will have no choice but to take those written scenes and clearly visualize them.
The uniqueness and new perspective on the Loch Ness will have any reader, no matter preference of genre in my opinion, flipping page to page or listening scene to scene with ease. While this was an easy story to get through, it is in the most opposite way of degrading it. This was so well developed that the reader or listener will want nothing more than to get through it all in one sitting! I recommend to everyone interested in science fiction or any genre for that matter!
