About this listen

Pulling on the threads of your past is enough to kill you...

When a teenage islander goes missing on Burns Night, D.I. Duncan McAdam takes a strong interest despite the apparent lack of concern shown by the boy's father. When a woman's body is soon discovered in Talisker Bay, with a single stab wound to the chest, Duncan and his team realize they have a killer on the island.

A brutal winter storm is battering the island, and it soon becomes a race against time to find the missing boy. Is he hiding or is someone keeping him from coming home? As the team delve deeper into the lives of the teenager and the deceased, they come to the conclusion that nothing is quite what it seems and more than one person has a vested interest in concealing the truth.

A closely guarded secret, lying in a shallow grave for years, is under threat of being revealed and no one seems willing to face up to their past... least of all, Duncan McAdam himself. Duncan has a decision to make, one that will impact not only his life but the lives of those he cares about the most. Does he have the courage to follow his instincts? And just who is he acting in the interests of... the people he loves, or purely for himself?

The Talisker Dead is the third book in the new Misty Isle series of crime thrillers from the Amazon #1 multi-million selling crime writer, J M Dalgliesh, the author of the Hidden Norfolk and Dark Yorkshire books.

The twists and turns.

Love Angus King’s narration! He brings the characters to life so vividly. In my mind, he is the best.

Isle of Skye

Winter on the Isle of Skye must really suck. But it runs throughout the story. Part of this series puts the Isle of Skye into a romantic light but I'm sure the reality is not so good. According to the stories summers are good and many from the mainland have summer homes here, some people invest in homes and make the AirBnb or Vrrbo places.

Duncan finds himself in another good mystery taking him all over the island. An integral part to this story finds him needing to interview the son he's just found out his hand. His relationship with the son, the mother, the stepfather are play central parts in this book. And, by now you are caught in this family story.

I wish he'd finish renovating the family home he's moving back into and get out of his caravan!

Looking forward to #4

I do hope there will be another few books in the works for this series. I’d love to hear more. I’ve enjoyed the stories in this series so far, though book 1 and 2 have some weird plot similarities. The narrator is terrific with the men’s voices, but I almost wish they’d get a woman to read the female voices, though. That said, it’s still overall an engrossing series.

Amazing narration bringing characters to life

Really enjoyed the storyline, plenty of interwoven dramas going on but done so cleverly to keep you wondering what’s next.

Becky is hard to handle

I almost stopped listening a couple of times because I find Becky‘s character so incredibly annoying. I understand that maybe she is supposed to be conflicted and emotional, but she reads to me as immature and manipulative. I hope she grows up or does not show up as much in the next book. Sorry, JM!

I thought the story was compelling otherwise and the “cause” (backstory) of the murder was original and tragic.

Great series!

This is my favorite series by this author! The storyline is great, the characters are so well developed that I feel like I know them, and the mystery was surprise after surprise. I hope to find out more about what happens to the secondary characters in the next book.
