Publisher's summary

One of the oldest tools for revealing the territory of the unconscious, the Tarot has been used for centuries to tap deep levels of self-knowledge. Here, Arrien, a native Basque and anthropologist, speaks of universal archetypes in the Tarot, and how these archetypes can be used for self-understanding. The power of symbols and how they impact our life so much of the time is also covered by Arrien in this expressive dialogue.

Angeles Arrien is an anthropologist, educator, and a consultant to the medical, academic, and corporate communities worldwide. She has taught at the University of California, California Institute of Integral Studies, the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, and the Alaya Institute, and is the founder of the Angeles Arrien Foundation for Cross-Cultural Education and Research. She is the author of numerous articles and books, including The Tarot Handbook (Arcus Publishers 1987), The Four-Fold Way: Walking the Paths of the Warrior, Teacher, Healer, and Visionary (HarperSanFrancisco 1993), The Nine Muses: A Mythological Path to Creativity (Tarcher/Putnam 2000), and The Second Half of Life: Opening the Eight Gates of Wisdom (Sounds True 2005).

disapointing so far

i've used/studied the tarot for over 30 yrs. was looking forward to learning more-breadth or depth.
turns out this format- radio interview
a) has way too much air space filled in with music. i hope that's not typical, but if so after i hear all i bought from this program type, i won't buy again.
b) the first 16 min are dead-space, how did you find the tarot, and then undocumentable history
and symbols - circle, square, triangle, spiral, equilateral cross.
the talk is less than 1 hr, so now 1/4 of it is filled with fluff. ....
i will listen to the rest in a couple of days, and update the review, but if you don't know tarot, this so far won't tell you anything.
and
if you do know tarot so far this won't tell you anything.
the same interviewer and speaker have several other talks so i will be learning more.

Esoteric Junk Food - 100 percent mindless fluff.

I realize that occult wisdom isn't going to be found in a 99 cent download. I also realize that with many New Age publications one has to have pretty low expectations.

Even then, this recording misses the mark. The interviewer and 'authority' spend so much time agreeing with each other I thought I was eavesdropping in on their first date together (Oh yes... So true, so true... uh-huh, uh-huh).

Add to this some genuine drivel like the Tarot is Chinese in origin.

If you are looking for food for the soul, keep looking. This is a Twinkie.

Tarot comes alive with Angeles Arrian.

As usual, anything by Angeles is brilliant and well presented. studying with her was a life changing event.
