His king or his conscience...which will he choose?

It is the winter of 1776, and Captain John Carlisle, one of His Majesty’s not-so-finest, has gone back to the scene of the crime to right a wrong so dark it left a permanent stain on what was once an illustrious career and left a man broken, defeated, in search of justice....

In an effort to win back his commission, he must discover the true nature of the relationship between the six nations of the Iroquois and the colonial army. Undercover as a war profiteer, John travels to the treacherous Mohawk River Valley and infiltrates local society, making friends with those he’s come to betray. But a chance meeting with a beautiful, half-Oneida innkeeper, whose tragic history is integrally linked to his own, will provide him with the intelligence he needs to complete his mission - and devastate her people.

Now, as the flames of war threaten to consume the Mohawk Valley, John has the chance to not only serve the king and country, but to clear his name. When the truth he uncovers ties his own secrets to those in the highest positions of the British military and threatens the very life of the woman he’s come to love, he will be forced to make a choice....

Great Story

T.J. London was a new to me author and definitely won't be the last time I listen.
I don't know if I will ever be able to listen to Patrick Zeller again without thinking of his character in this book.
I'm a huge fan of Shane East and he is a big reason I chose this book, although the other reviews of this book led me to it as well.
Tara Langella and Marnye Young were also new to me and they were both really good in their parts.

The story is intriguing. Although I thought I had a couple of things figured out, I was continuously surprised. At the end of one chapter I was just OMGing all over the place because it was such a shock to me.

Love the story, love all the narrators. Can't wait for the rest of the series to come into audo.

Historical Fiction at its BEST!

The Tory, the first book in the Rebels and Redcoats saga, by TJ London is a wonderful depiction of American history. The story of Captain John Carlisle, British spy and scoundrel on the path of redemption, and the half-breed innkeeper Dellis McKesson who helps him navigate the native tribes as part of his mission while undercover as a tradesman. Though not meant as a love story, the relationship between John and Dellis is integral to the story, as she heals John in body and spirit, while seeking revenge against the British who killed her father, not knowing the secrets John hides. The story is harsh and sometimes brutal, as was life in that time. And the end leaves you wanting to see how the story resolves.

The narrating cast, including Shane East and Tara Langella was absolutely phenomenal! I really enjoyed having the full cast narration, a first for me, but definitely it the last. I can’t wait to listen to the second book, The Traitor!

Story & Narration was beyond amazing

Audiobook review: This book was sooooo good. I’m not normally one to listen to or read historical anything but I am a fan now. TJ London is a new to me author but she has earned herself a new fan in me.

The narration was beyond amazing. Three of the four were new to me narrators but they all did such an amazing job. I became so invested in all the aspects of the story and now I’m counting down the days until I can listen to the next book.

Bravo Ms. London. Very well done.

lovers of history and romance

the Tory by T.J. London is one of those books that stick with you for a very long time. It is for fans and lovers of history, for its richness, honor and respect of our past. to tell the stories of those "history" may easily forget and for those of us that enjoy a little romance, you have a very slow build in this amazing story.
If you love big books, this one is right up your alley. there is a huge plot brewing that I cannot wait to uncover.

highly recommend.

the audio version just adds so much more depth to the story itself. the actors did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. well worth the splurge for the audio book. the voice of John is just Fantastic. dellis' actress has a nice crisp tone that really exemplifies the character Ms. London was introducing us to and the voice of the man behind it all, the villain of this tale has a carefree voice that just makes his character feel that much more sinister. this audio book is a delight to the ears and some glitter to the imagery we already have pictured in our brains as the reader. really well done. Very much looking forward to the next installment.

Captivating and entertaining

I love historical fiction and was excited to dive into the first audiobook of the Rebels and Redcoats Saga with its brilliant cast of narrators. TJ London did not disappoint. I laughed, cried, and found myself completely immersed in the period. Rich imagery, historical details, and complex characters gave way to a riveting storyline.

Shane East was the perfect voice for John, and it was delightful to hear him perform in a different genre. Outstanding. I adore Tara Langella, who brings everything to the mic. Her voice for Dellis was perfection. Patrick Zeller was brilliant as Roger and I kind of love him. LOL Marnye Young is Celeste, and I cannot imagine anyone else.

Fans of historical sagas and novels by Diana Gabaldon and Genevieve Graham will devour this audiobook. I cannot wait for THE TRAITOR.

I could not get enough of Captain John Carlisle

I was so excited for the audiobook because a friend told me about it. I ended up downloading the ebook sample because I couldn't wait, which then lead me to purchase the full book because I just could not put it down. I completely devoured it because I was so taken in by the writing, the way the story was told and all of the amazing characters. There are scenes that will make you cry, get angry, feel scared and even a few that will make your heart melt. It's definitely what I would call an epic level story.

I was given the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of the audiobook. Let me tell you this, I was absolutely blown away by the audio performance. Coming into this audio, I had heard prior performances by only one of the 4 narrators. I knew the caliber to expect from one of them, but the others were new to me. Every single one of them was outstanding! They all were able to bring T.J.'s characters to life. Trust me, you're gonna want to buy this audiobook.

historical romance newbie

This is my first book by TJ and was recommended by book friends. I had bought the book but knew it was going to end on a cliffhanger so wanted to wait until I had a release date for the next book.
I knew I wanted this book because of the narration and full cast is something I really enjoy because it brings the book to life like a movie for my ears!
But, I wasn't expecting to love this as much as I did!
TJ made me want to do more research into this time period.
She has managed what no other prior history teacher has before..get me interested in this subject!!
I was drawn into Shane's portrayal of John Carlisle, his character went through a transition through his experiences during the war. I expect great things from him in the next book.
Tara as Dellis is the the true hero of this book, imho. What she endured, her losses...they didn't break her, they made her stronger.
I know it's wrong to love the villain, but Patrick Zeller is just phenomenal in his portrayal of Roger, he's psychotic and devious and I know there's going to be more to this character in the next book.
Marnye is perfect as Celeste, who's conniving and looks out for number one. I have a feeling about her!
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next book!!
