About this listen

Drawing on the true story of the White Rose - the resistance movement of young Germans against the Nazi regime - The Traitor tells of one woman who offers her life in the ultimate battle against tyranny, during one of history's darkest hours.

In the summer of 1942, as war rages across Europe, a series of anonymous leaflets appears around the University of Munich, speaking out against escalating Nazi atrocities. The leaflets are hidden in public places, or mailed to addresses selected at random from the phone book. Natalya Petrovich, a student, knows who is behind the leaflets - a secret group called the White Rose, led by siblings Hans and Sophie Scholl and their friends.

As a volunteer nurse on the Russian front, Natalya witnessed the horrors of war first-hand. She willingly enters the White Rose's circle, where every hushed conversation, every small act of dissent could mean imprisonment or death at the hands of an infuriated Gestapo. Natalya risks everything alongside her friends, hoping the power of words will encourage others to resist. But even among those she trusts most, there is no guarantee of safety - and when danger strikes, she must take an extraordinary gamble in her own personal struggle to survive.

Very well told story

If you’re into historical fiction, like I am, he will really love the story. He also does a great job of painting the scene and having you feel exactly what everybody went through.

Story of bravery and some luck

The story was good and seemed to be a fairly realistic representation of the resistance. The narrator, however, was very distracting. Maybe there were commas after every “that”, but a pause was not necessary. Changing speed did not help. I thought I would get used to it, but it persisted until the very end.

Truth or not truth

This makes you think. Could we be getting near a time like this? How would you know?

Good story - Sometimes ill paced

V Alexander does a great job capturing the personal experiences around WW2 with depth and emotion. Performance sounded almost computer generated in many parts which distracted from the humanity of the story.

Another great story from V.S.

Had this on my wishlist for a while, I enjoy the style of writing VS Alexander has in their historical fictions in the Second World War. Accurate history, beautiful writing that paints clear pictures of the story. Always grabs my full attention
until I am finished with it

Not all the Germans are guilty.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants to know more about the innocent Germans who were against Hitler and the atrocities that he and his people committed.

Great historical Novak

I’ve listened to “The Taster” and “The Traitor”. Both books were great, however, I believe the Taster was a bit better.

“The Taster” captured the reader/listeners from start to finish. Although a great story, it took a bit longer to get into “ The Traitor”

At the end, I would recommend both books with a slight nudge to “The Taster”.

Best, Glenda

Pretty good

Although the narrator takes deep breaths before she speaks. I haven’t heard a person do that before. It got me wondering how do the others not do that. But she has a nice voice. I wish there were more conversations. There’s a lot of detailing. Sometimes I felt like I wish she would hurry up to get back to the conversation.
Over all it was neat to read how a Russian tried to help the Jews

Great read

Talks about a Russian’s (but brought up German) point of view resisting against Adolf Hitler… Her story is great… I definitely recommend.
