About this listen

Megan Flannigan wants only two things in life: to run her bakery The Rise and Shine and to avoid the handsome and insufferable officer Caleb Thornton.

Caleb has made her life difficult ever since he arrested her, over a decade ago, and her one wish is that he leaves her alone, while they both continue to deny the attraction that sparks between them every time they meet.

Her wishes are dashed when her bakery is robbed. To make matters worse, Caleb is assigned to the case and he’s the officer charged to protect Megan from a dangerous criminal.

Caleb Thornton decided to become a police officer to atone for a tragic adolescent mistake. As part of the famously rich and privileged Thornton family, he’s always been aware of how he can never measure up to his family’s expectations.

As a result, he follows the letter of the law in both his job and his personal life - except when it comes to the beautiful and fiery Megan. She makes him yearn for something more, and she attracts him as much as she frustrates him. When Caleb is assigned to watch over Megan, he’s forced to reconcile the feelings he’s harbored for her for years.

But as danger draws closer to Fair Haven, Megan and Caleb must come to grips with the past or risk losing the love of a lifetime.

I started this book even though it’s in a series. It can be read as standalone. I really enjoyed it. This is a new to me author, and was really impressed. Low angst book, perfect book for a lazy day.

The Very Thought of You was the story of Caleb and Megan. I have not listened to the first book in the series which appears to have been about Megan's sister and Caleb's brother, but this is a standalone so while the characters are interconnected, each story is about a different couple. This is an enemies to lovers romance with a bit of suspense mixed in. The very last sentence in this book makes me want to listen to the next book in the series. Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer did a great job bringing this story to life. I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

The Very Thought of You: The Thorntons, Book Two was another great read by Iris Morland. Megan has two goals; to run her bakery and to avoid Caleb. He has made her life difficult since he arrested her a decade ago. Unfortunately her bakery is robbed and Caleb is assigned to figure out what happened. Through the investigation, they both can't deny their attraction anymore. I loved Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer's narration of the characters. I can't wait to read more by the author.

I enjoyed the story for the most part ( Cover shows a blonde not a redhead) during the story when one main event happened in the beginning of the story it says the boys were 16 and then at the end of the story they said they were 17 so that just kind of bugged me. I did not do the first book so now I’m thinking I need to backtrack because I’m not sure whatever happened to her dad if I missed it or if it said in the first book but the story was pretty good and I think the narrators did a pretty good job there was just a few things that were confusing

Megan's bakery is robbed and the one person she has been avoiding, is the person assigned to her case, Caleb Thornton. Megan and Caleb each have a past that brought them to where they are today. It once brought them together in a different way. Will Megan be able to overcome that anger and embarrassment? Will Caleb ever get past and work through his big mistake? The way their lives are tangled together really gives depth to their story. This story caught my heart and attention and would not let go until the end. Iris Morland wove these two lives together through her words and I was caught in the tangled web.

Heather Costa and Jeffrey Kafer have complimentary voices. The transitions betweent ehm was smooth and kept he story flowing. I enjoyed listening to this narration. Ms. Costa and Mr. Kafer brought this story to life.

This was one of those books that I really wanted to enjoy but it just felt… off. I don’t think it’s because I hadn’t read the first book – the character building was enough in this to give me who each person was. It just sort of felt like everyone was a little naive and sure, it might be a small town – but an officer protecting someone’s bakery all night just feels a bit far off. It almost felt like they lived in one of those cookie-cutter walled off neighborhoods.

The story tries to mix a mystery/thriller in with romance. It was a borderline RomCom since there were funny moments and the “meet cute” moments felt right out of a movie. The romantic scenes were also a bit interesting. I guess each author has their own word they like to use. Morland’s word choice for these scense was a bit off for me.

The romantic scenes were the only saving grace to the slow-moving and borderline boring mystery aspect of the story. It just felt like Morland wanted to make it not just about these two finally getting together – but they needed a weird outside force to force them together.

Thankfully, the narration partially saved this. Kafer and Costa did a great job dual narrating this and made the story where they could.

A story of how thin the line is between love and hate. Secrets come in between the enemies to lovers couple as they weave their way through turbulent situations finding a HEA in the end.

Both narrators did an excellent job and Jeffrey Kafer has such a sexy growly voice.
