Publisher's summary

“She was unraveling me, slowly but surely. I could feel it happening. Like she was gently unbuttoning the collar of a shirt that fit too tight.”

Single-minded drive earned Roland Miles success - and cost him his first love. When his marriage to Zoe ended, he did the only thing he knew. He dove into work to put his heartbreak behind him.

Zoe Sutton’s life hasn’t exactly gone to plan. She certainly didn’t plan on losing Roland or moving home to work for his family’s winery. Four years after their divorce, she wonders if her chance at happily ever after is behind her.

After discovering his family might lose their land, Roland comes home to help sort out the mess. But between his brothers’ antics, a baby sister who’s all grown up, and a father keeping secrets, complicated isn’t even the half of it.

And then there’s Zoe.

He didn’t come home looking for a second chance with her. But the more time they spend together, the more he realizes what they lost. What they could have again.

Because the truth is they broke each other’s hearts - and maybe they’re the only ones who can put them back together.

Author’s note: A stoic hero who’s soft on the inside. A sassy heroine who doesn’t take any shit. Messy family. Lots of shenanigans. Mattress-burning bonfires. And a second chance at love with a big HEA.

The Miles Family series is best enjoyed in order.

Family Calls

Roland gets a call from his brother Leo asking him to come home, Echo Creek, WA because they are about to lose Salesman, a winery his family has for generations. Torn Roland decides to go and continued working for his firm in San Francisco. It is discovered that his father, Lawrence is the culprit as he more preoccupied with having affairs then tending the family business. Also there's the fact that Zoe Sutton, Roland's ex is working at the winery. With time Roland and Zoe connect again and Shannon kicked Lawrence out as they discovered that not only has he been having affairs, but also had two children with another woman. Grace and Elijah. In the end, Roland decides to stay home full-time and re-unite with Zoe. There's nothing sexy about Maxine Mitchell's voice, is like she is crying or something??? Joe Arden was good as always.

hard to get into.

this first book was a little hard to get into, maybe because this MMC had a chip on his shoulder when he came back home, I am glad that I stuck it out, because this love story was so good I love the siblings in this book and I love how they embrace the half siblings that they have no idea that they had.

Loved this emotional second-chance romance

Claire Kingsley is known for writing great romantic comedies full of heart, emotion and tenderness, and this one lives up to all of my expectations. Broken Miles is the first in the Miles Family series, and it introduces us to the entire family and their complicated situation as their father sinks and then abandons the family business - a winery.

Roland left he family business years ago on a quest to make something of himself independently. He had married his long-time sweetheart, Zoe, very young, and they drifted apart and ultimately divorced. After the divorce, she return to the Miles family business, and when Roland is called back home to help rescue the business, they are thrown back together again, Soon they discover that those old feelings never died, and they have to figure out how to trust each other again.

The writing is high quality, and your really understand the emotions of each character. The glimpses into both Roland's and Zoe's minds, their thoughts, their insecurities, really enhances the story line. Add to it the amazing character development and growth that they both display, as well as the development of the other family members that will be featured in future books, and you have a recipe for success.

Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell really bring Roland and Zoe to life. Their narration is perfect for characters that have some maturity and have experienced weary life lessons, and their delivery of the emotional conversations and thoughts really enhances the already moving material.

Can't wait to listen to the other books in the series.

Such a good series starter!

I loved this book so much. Roland and Zoe were perfection. I loved getting introduced to the rest of the Miles family. I’m a huge fan of second chance romance too so this was perfect for me. The narration was wonderful. I can’t wait for the rest of the series.

Great Second Chance

The saying "older and wiser" really does apply to this story. As we get older, we see things we don't see when we are younger. How to communicate our needs and wants and how to be vulnerable. Roland and Zoe needed to do that when they were younger, but who knows if it would have changed things. All they knew is that they still loved each other so much it hurt. I'm so happy these two could talk through things and realize what was truly important to them. Two of my favorite narrators, they did such a great job.

Second Chances

I loved Roland and Zoe's story. Married young, divorced when there seemed to be no other choice, moving on with their separate lives. Or so they thought.

I was immediately drawn into the story. The description of the Miles' family dynamic made me want to be either a part of the family or someone who works closely with them at their family winery. The deceit by the head of the family left behind a wake of troubles that rippled out ever wider as more and more was revealed. Roland's reluctance to begrudgingly leave his successful life behind to return to "fix" the family business was only compounded by the stress of Zoe also working for the winery. I truly enjoyed the mature and respectful they, as exes, treated each other and how supportive Zoe was of Roland when he most needed it.

The attraction between the two was scorching!

The narration, by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell, was perfect casting. They both had a wonderful range of emotions that came through in their tone and way of reading the material. They brought the characters to life and, at times, I almost felt as though I was actually a part of their conversations. I also enjoyed the nuances they gave the inner dialogue of the characters - they spoke them in the same way I had "heard" them in my head while reading the book.

I would highly recommend this audio book!

Broken Miles

I actually came to this series after first reading the first two Bailey Brothers books, so I knew a bit about the Miles family characters and stories. However, that did not lessen my enjoyment of Roland and Zoe's story at all.

Their second chance romance is unique, as they were not only dating but married and divorced. Once they reconnect it is obvious their connection was never really severed, but it's not easy to find their way back to each other.

I really liked getting to know the rest of the Miles family, too, and am looking forward to seeing them all get their happily ever afters.

It was nice listening to this story on audiobook. The narrators did a wonderful job bringing the characters and story to life.

This book is hysterical 🤣!

This book is amazing.
I love the characters and the secondary characters.
Claire Kingsley, knows how to make you fall in love with her creation.

Roland Miles and Zoey Sutton, feel in love in high school and married at twenty.
As their life changed, so did their ambitions, and soon their marriage fell apart, ending in divorce.
For years later, Roland, is called back to the family vineyard to figure out why it is close to foreclosure.
Zoe, has worked for the family since the divorce and now they find themselves falling for each other.
Zoe, knows she should protect her heart but Roland, will stop at nothing to get a second chance.
I also, believe everyone should have a break up box.
I loved both Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden's interpretation of this story. They are both amazing in how they captured the characters feelings and personalities.
This is going to be a great series. I look forward to reading all of the Mile's happy ever after.
