Brotherhood of War revealed the drama and challenge of army life...The Corps explored the proud tradition of the Marines...now, Badge of Honor takes you behind the scenes of today's urban police force.

The Victim

Another great book from Griffin. The whole badge of honor series is well written showing Griffin's dedication to details and his knowledge of his subject

Warning for Racist and Sexist language

Since I was a teen in the 1970s, I know that the racism and sexism portrayed in this series is accurate and ugly. The characters are varied and engrossing but not all are likeable. The Philadelphia setting is so realistic, I can almost smell the cheese steaks.

Again & Again!!

I never tire of going back to this series for a reread! The characters are great and I love the setting in the early books, 1970's Philadelphia. Growing up in the 70's, I like the setting because it reminds me how things were, especially never being able to get in touch with someone. Life before cell phones. There is a grittiness in the books that comes with the time and Griffin captures the feeling of big city 1970's turmoil. Michael Russotto is also one of my favorite narrators. Some of the characters have similar dialects by Russotto, but his voice is great for the setting and characters.

If you like Griffin's other books, you love this series.

Loved it!

His books are always great fun. I love his characters and their backgrounds and depth. I love the dry humor and comarderie he gives his characters. I love the narrator for the male parts but he makes some of the females sound too whiney for me. When I read the book I’m not interpreting their conversations as whiney. It’s difficult for me listening to a male narrator for the female parts anyway. So, it’s just my personal problem. I think Michael Russotto is a great narrator and wouldn’t hesitate buying any audible that he is narrating.

Satisfyingly unsatisfying

With his ever present minute attention to detail, Grifin spins a take of multiple murders and a wounded socialite. The details of the inner workings of a large metropolitan police department's day to day activities and the political pressures placed on high ranking officers keeps the reader's attention. The ending is both concise and incomplete, unfortunately mirroring the probable reality of real police work. One hopes that the next novel in the series answers the unresolved questions.

Excellent drama, disappointing police work.

I enjoyed all the characters, their contrast in wealth and education and the pride they took in their jobs. I also found the lack of cynicism refreshing for a police drama. And the humor, particularly the mayor's was unique and edgy.

What I find lacking is the lack of detail in the police work itself. Nevertheless I flew the story and was only disappointed it ended with a whimper.
