Publisher's summary
A feel-good story of new beginnings set in a gorgeous country village.
'A lovely story of finding yourself and discovering what home means. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. Loved it.' Jessica Redland
After losing her job in New York, Amber Green isn’t looking forward to visiting her godmother in the sleepy village of Cranbridge. With its empty lanes and rundown shops, it’s hardly a place to mend her lonely heart.
But when Amber discovers that Cranbridge Stores, owned by her godmother Cathy and son Josh, is under threat of financial ruin, she realises that her skills as a window dresser might just be able to help save the struggling shop.
When disaster strikes, Amber and Josh must unite to save both the shop and the village from flooding.
Can Cranbridge Stores become the heart of the village once more?
And as the village begins to come back to life, perhaps Amber will discover a reason to stay…
A feel-good listen perfect for fans of Katie Fforde and Milly Johnson
'Glorious escapism. Uplifting, heartwarming and joyful, Alison Sherlock writes with a warmth and lightness of touch' Kerry Fisher

Story
Janine Potter grew up on the other side of the tracks. Her mother, Nancy, struggled with just about everything—alcohol, men, money—and Janine made a pledge to herself that she would never be like her. At age nineteen, Janine met Jack Potter, the son of an oil tycoon, and never looked back. Her life became a series of cocktail parties and multi-million-dollar apartments all across the world, and rubbing elbows with celebrities. Slowly, memory of her mother faded, although the trauma never really did.

Story
A heartwarming, uplifting village romance for fans of Holly Martin, Tilly Tennant and Cathy Bramley. Buying a thatched cottage in the country may not be the usual cure for a broken heart. But after Clara Maxwell finds out her boyfriend and best friend have been sneaking around behind her back, packing her bags and leaving everything in London behind feels like it's the only way forward. When Henry Garnett, her (rather handsome) new contractor, turns up with his little daughter Pansy and a van shaped like a cottage in tow, she isn't sure whether to laugh or cry.

Set in 1920s London, this is the inspiring story of Kate Goss' struggle against poverty, hunger and cruel family secrets. Her mother died in a fall, her father has vanished without trace, and now her aunt and cousins treat her viciously. In a freezing, vermin-infested garret, factory girl Kate has only her own brave spirit and dreams of finding her father to keep her going. She has barely enough money to feed herself, or to pay the rent. The factory where she works begins to lay off people and it isn't long before she has fallen into the hands of the violent local money-lender.

childhood friendships and how they bloom
This story was so sweet. I loved the characters and its a story longer than time itself, but the ones that make us for in love again and again.

Nice cozy romance
Loved this book it does start out a little sad but it does pick up. I like that fact it doesn't focus on the characters insecurities at nauseum.

Such a simple and cute story!
If you're looking for a cozy fireplace story to curl up with, this is definitely the one! The characters are easy with normal, understandable, and relatable nuances. The story reads fluidly with no unnecessary twists and turns. The narrator's voice is soothing and pleasant. Aesthetically, everything about this book is great.
Some stories take excessive liberties with drama and sometimes that's ok. But, there are times when you don't want a story that makes you want to throw something in fury or growl in frustration at the antics of the characters. This story is simple with a few hiccups that add depth to the story without making it complex. The hesitations of the characters are "normal" in that they are not erratic or ridiculous. You truly understand and empathize with them and how they act. They are loveable in their own ways. Its a beautifully soothing story.
The narrator does an awesome job. There are a few places where she pauses too early in the sentence and thus throws off the flow, but it doesn't take away from the story. Those instances are also few and far between. I found her voice gentle and appropriate. She gives proper life to each character.

Best narrator ever!
I chose this book only because it was narrated by Helen Keeley, who makes her characters sound like people I would like to get to know. The story is sweet and worth a listen!
