About this listen
The handsome but arrogant Lord Charles Hawksborough desperately wants to catch the infernally insolent thief who held him up at pistol point on the King's Highway and rode off with his family's inheritance and jewels.
Hawksborough tries just as desperately to not want the piquant and penniless Miss Amanda Colby when this young lady and her twin brother come to stay at his London townhouse during the height of the social season.
Hawksborough fears his desire for this slip of a girl as he is about to wed the most beautiful and more suitable Lady Mary Dane. Meanwhile, Amanda fears he will discover she is the thief before she can atone for the crime. Whatever is to happen, it is clear that neither is prepared for what takes place in this bewildering labyrinth of love and larceny!

All he must do is follow "The Penhallow way" - find a biddable bride, produce an heir and a spare, and then live separate lives. It's worked so well for generations, certainly one kiss with the delectable Livia Stuart isn't going to change things. Society dictates he marry her, and one chit is as good as another as long as she's from a decent family.

Wealthy and arrogant, Gabriel Penhallow knows it's time to fulfill his dynastic duty.

A great story of forbidden love and redemption!
I've read a lot of the 'Royal Series' books by M.C. Beaton as a sort of pallet cleanser between more depressing/heavy reads, and I really have enjoyed them all. Being of a light-hearted, fun, and wistfully romantic nature, it provides the perfect mental vacation for me. And this title may be my favorite yet! I also loved the narrator for this story. She was perfect for it!

Cute, entertaining story
This is a light listen. I really liked the main characters and the love story was sweet. As always Chesney throws in an evil villain or two to move the plot along. I liked Lucy Raynor's narration.

Good but awkward narration habit.
The narrator was good, and did voices well. Unfortunately, she had a grating habit of raising the heroin's voice in a high shrill manner at the start of each sentence. When she lowered it, it was fine.

Best of the series!
A twist, makes this one different. I honestly wish the stories would continue. Tell the tale, after the wedding and give more to the storyline. Guy gets girl END. I wish there were epilogues!

Great narrator. Good story but…
First, I have never listened to a book with Lucy Rayner as narrator. She is very good. The story is good but the main female character got on my nerves at times. Just sheer stupidity.

story is awful but performance is great
I skipped the entire middle of the book from chapter 3-9. The books that are in that royal series as well as the smaller series at the same time are the ones that aren't very good. They're dark and the people are nasty, even though they turn out with the Austen-esque love match happily ever after anyway.
