Publisher's summary

In the vastness of space, something lurks in the darkness.

Captain Morgan Starling and her crew travel the stars, shipping cargo from one system to the next. Easy work, until first contact with another race devolved into all-out war.

Now, they’re under attack from humanity’s mysterious alien foe, ambushed in the void between systems. When an unknown vessel comes to their aid, events spiral out of control, a twisted secret within its haunted corridors threatening to consume them, body and soul.

What they discover within will shatter what they know of life and death. Dragged into a battle with monstrous unfathomable forces, they must escape the nightmarish creatures that lurk out amongst the infinite black of space.

Forced into a desperate struggle for life, the crew must survive, if they ever want to get home...

Sci-Fi Horror at its Finest

Sci-Fi Horror worthy of comparison to the Alien Series! There's a war going on between humanity and an alien race. Caught in the middle of it is our crew of protagonists on a civilian cargo ship. When a battle leaves everyone dead (and ships disabled) except our 6 surviving crew members and 1 lone alien, things start to get interesting, and terrible.
There is another unseen, unknown alien force so evil and powerful that it must be stopped from spreading. Will our desperate heroes prevail in this bloody fight for survival?!?

excellent all around

I saw a review that claimed the narrator sounded happy during some parts when they shouldn't I never experienced that. Perhaps the accent threw them off but I thought it was wonderfully read. thanks I'm off to buy the sequel

Finally

narrator took some getting use to but this had every element of sci-fi horror I could want. I'd stay up late just because I couldn't stop listening. the imagery and story are what I wanted for a long time and now I've got two more to go through 😎

Now I Understand!

The book was hard to absorb, that was until I dialed the narrators speech down to 80%, and like magic, the story came to life. So now , after 617 audio books, I understand the wisdom of the speech speed controller!

likeable characters and a good narrator

This book suffers from some technical inconsistencies, like characters acting as if they are under gravity while in freefall, but it's only a minor distraction. The characters are interesting and likeable and the story is very engaging. One thing I hate and I almost gave this a bad review for it is the end was senselessly brutal - I know this is supposed to be horror, but it felt like it had become action/adventure and suddenly did a bunch of bad things all at once just to screw with the reader and get in the horror quotient. I'm only reserving judgement because there are two sequels and I want to see how the series unfolds

Horror In Space!

Good horror story, but never quite makes it to what I consider a great horror story. A great horror story makes you want to check under the bed to make sure that nothing is hiding there, this story did not do that to me. The best thing about this story is the way the characters are depicted, which caused me to care about what happened to them.
Matt Jenkins' narration was good and his voice is easy to listen to; however, at times he seemed to lose definiteness in the characters' voices. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

One hell of a good ride.

Although there are Dead Space vibes in this Lovecraftian tale The Void Beyond is it's own animal. If, like yours truly, you are a fan of cosmic horror and hard sci fi, then I recommend this book. This is one of the most gripping and engaging books I've come across. With my American ears it took some getting used to in regards of the narrator, but the guy did an excellent job. I'm not one for leaving a review, but damn, this book was awesome. By far the best book I've come across in a long time. I will be driving into the author's other works as well.

Great book!

Could not turn this book off. The UK narrator gave it a nice change to the normal American narrators.
