About this listen

When a sink hole opens up near the Australian outback town of Pintalba, it uncovers a pristine cave system. Sam joins an expedition to explore the subterranean passages as paramedic support, hoping to remain unneeded at base camp. But, when one of the cavers is injured, he must overcome paralyzing claustrophobia to dive pitch-black waters and squeeze through the bowels of the earth.

Soon he will find there are fates worse than being buried alive, for in the abandoned mines and caves beneath Pintalba, there are ravenous teeth in the dark.

As a savage predator targets the group with hideous ferocity, Sam and his friends must fight for their lives if they are ever to see the sun again.

Unique creature feature

Fun listen. There were a few inconsistencies in the storyline an editor should have caught. The narrator didn’t do female voices well. Sometimes it was a struggle to know who was talking. But that Australian accent? AWESOME to listen to!
Overall, good story.

Australian creature feature

Continuing my creature feature literary trek around the world with this tale from Australia. This one was a lot of fun and would make a really great movie. The caves of Australia are home to an alien creature called the Miner’s Mother which is both amphibious and a chameleon. There’s a lot of gory mayhem here.

okay story, leaves much to the imagination

helped pass the time, draws on readers horror film knowledge to get the scenes. I have a pretty good imagination, and the narrator relayed the story.

Interesting story.

Perfect amount of time to tell the story. Not drawn out. Interesting characters. Kept me interested and wanting to hear the end.

Boring

There was not thrill. You know what is down there hunting in the first chapter. You get a hint of something more when sacrifices are offered by towns folk. But you still know the creature and what is coming. I gave up bored and disgusted after a detailed description of a lamb sacrificed and the second group seeing the same thing

creepy fun listen

I absolutely loved this book the narrator was amazing and his voice is calming and thrilling at the same time. some parts left me laughing so hard and other parts I hate to pause because eeeek. I'm not trying to give to much away but some moments I was like are these guys idiots they have stupid. also spoiler and question. Trevor and Cass did they really think oh hey I'm going to stop the miners mother by luring out and killing the only paramedic for a sacrifice.

Cinematic

Action from start to finish. Reads like a movie. Very little character development. You don't really care about the characters because you know very basic information about them and that's it. Could easily be a creature feature movie.

Narrator consistently ruins the immersion

The story is alright, nothing phenomenal but not terrible. The narrator however is the most stereotypical William Shatner-esque person I have ever heard. Constant dramatic pauses in the middle of every sentence in the the entire book, with emphasis scattered about in bizarre places. Virtually no emotion on any spoken lines makes the characters feel hollow and ingenuine for the entire book, regardless of the writing. The entire narration is so halting and clumsy it completely ruins any sense of investment in the story.

Okay Creature Story

The creature itself was interesting. The middle of the story was a little convoluted in the sense of why it took so long for the main characters to encounter the creature. Otherwise it was a decent read.
