About this listen

MA1 Iskander Ayhan's orders are simple: stay with Admiral Dalton's son as his plainclothes bodyguard while he attends university classes. So typical - a high-ranking officer abusing Navy resources for unnecessary security as a status symbol. But it doesn't take long before Iskander realizes he's not really there to protect the kid from benign harassment by homophobic classmates.

Behind the piercings, eyeliner, and bad attitude, Troy Dalton is hiding something. He's scared, and although he's not so sure the armed bodyguard by his side is enough to keep him safe, he can't risk revealing the truth.

Slowly, Iskander gains Troy's trust, and the walls start coming down, but before they know it, the two men are way too close to each other...and suddenly Iskander is attracting more danger to the man he's sworn to protect.

Now he doesn't know how to keep Troy safe from harm - by staying close to him, or getting as far away from him as possible.

Another great listen

The author did well on the military service/terminology/description. That said, I was disappointed by the lack of discipline Iskander displayed at the onset of the relationship, and subsequent acceptance of Troy’s plan to withhold information about his stalker. An MA1 with his years of service and experience should have a lot more integrity.

The narrator was a bit disappointing too. Normally I have no issue with his voicing, but this time the 2 MCs sounded too similar.

Okay, not great

This was a FANTASTIC listen with Nick J Russo narrating. Some of the critical reviews mentioned too much repetitious internal dialogue, which I was definitely starting to notice towards the end (yes, yes, I get it, you shouldn't be doing this but you're going to anyway) - but it wasn't enough to take away a star for me, because I enjoyed the hell out of this.

There was a bit of a slow burn between defensive, pierced, eyeliner-wearing Troy and rule-following, can't-lie-to-save-his-life, protective Iskander, but once those sparks ignited it was HOT HOT HOT! The narration added a lot to the story for me, and I highly recommend it on audio.

An exciting and enjoyable listen

I love LA Witt and Nick J Russo, excellent pairing! I've already listened to this story twice. Sexy with a bit of drama. Highly recommend!

Great story!

Loved the narration, Nick did an amazing job with all the charachters and made me live into the story.
Liked the MCs and how there relationship went from distrust to love and that it actually took a couple of weeks/months for it to bloom into something more. The sex was really hot and it didnt feel like it was puched into the story just for the sake of adding sex.
Only thing I was disapointing of was that the stalker did maybe 2 warning attempts that was pritty much ignored after a while and then BAM! Other than that I really liked it and warmly recommend it.

Really liked it

I had read this book originally and really enjoyed it. I love Nick Russo so, of course, I was excited to get the audiobook.
With LA Witt you have a really good idea of what you’re going to get because she is such an expert at writing military based to romances. You know that she is going to give you a lot of really hot chemistry. And a really good set up with realistic scenarios.
While I am not a big mystery fan, I really appreciated the mystery and excitement in this story. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
If I have any complaints it would be that I had a very hard time wrapping my brain around the idea that Troy‘s father would not have a major problem with this relationship. I also really thought that Iskander would have been more reluctant to get involved with someone in his charge and so much younger, and would have therefore dragged his feet more before diving in. I also felt that Troy, having been burned so badly with his last relationship, would have been more reluctant to get involved in a relationship with another member of his father’s team. If you can accept all of that, however, then the rest the story is really good.

Troy and Iskander have serious heat together and as I mentioned before, the mystery component really adds to the story without becoming the main attraction.

Nick is so good at these types of stories. He gives everyone a unique voice and I loved Iskander’s deep rumble. Troy was young without sounding immature.

This is one of LA Witt’s best books, IMHO and I highly recommend it!

4.5 of 5 stars

With a couple minor exceptions - wonderful!

What did you like about this audiobook?

I absolutely would recommend this book. The author writes about military life and the life of gay sailors and it is clearly a topic about which she has great familiarity with character development bringing her men to life.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

The cadence, tone, and timing were smooth and comfortable allowing the listener to sink into the story.

Do you have any additional comments?

I love 'love' and I especially love it when opposites discover that they might not be so different after all. The two main characters in this story would seem to have nothing in common; certainly not age, body type, experiences yet somehow they worked perfectly and joined together in this suspenseful romance. "This kid was piercings and eyeliner, and he was a good thirteen years younger than me". After just a few days protecting Troy, Iskander had a change of heart. "Something about Troy didn't just confuse the shit out of me, it brought out a fierce sense of protectiveness I'd never experienced before." This author writes entertaining gay romantic suspense and the delivery by a talented voice actor is the frosting on the cupcake!

Everything that I love and wonderful delivery

Long and drawn out! What really annoyed me about this book was the lies Troy and Iskander told the admiral about who the stalker truly was, seriously didn’t this put Troy in more danger?!?! Also the internal dialogue Iskander had on every other page how he thought getting involved with Troy was a bad idea. Enough was enough, the last couple of chapters I had to jump forward because I could take anymore. 😫

When will it end?!?
