About this listen

America is hopelessly divided, but more worryingly, the ideas and “mystic chords of memory” that rest at the cornerstone of our civilization and bind the generations are being severed, attacked, and forgotten. The left has set out to shatter these bonds with a war on American history - the fundamental concepts, institutions, and icons that make our country what it is. And we have failed to protect our history, allowing Hollywood, educators, and the media to rewrite the story of America. We have ignored the invaluable lessons of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. If we wish to hold onto their vision of America, we must once again try to understand and defend the world-shaking ideas, actions, and men who made America great.

I loved how he was not afraid to tell it like it is with each person who is celebrated in our country yet people today see only the bad in them. No one is perfect but these men should be celebrated for what they did to make and preserve a great and wonderful country

This book is a great argument as to why revisionist history is a very bad idea. The history of America has not always been something that as an American I am proud of, but at the same time I want to know the good and the bad so that I don’t make the same mistakes as my ancestors. People and history are complicated. This book is a great reminder for that fact. I learned a great many things about the founding and history of our nation within the depths of this book. I feel that this should be read or listened to by anyone that feels that our history should be homogenized.

A Great Argument

Jarrett Stepman did an excellent job in giving a run down of some of the most prominent figures in American history and the causal effects of cancel culture in today's society affecting future generations from having a firm understanding of our country's past by attempting to erase it.

A great summary of history and cancel culture.

This was a good reminder of what made this nation and many of its founders great, while acknowledging their faults and providing context for how they should be remembered. The book would benefit from focusing more on just the historical topics and less on the modern attacks, as it would (in my opinion) be more palatable by a wider audience. At the opening is has the hint of a right wing echo chamber, though it doesn't quite play out that way as a whole. Overall, it felt like a fair analysis.

Writer gives a good clarification of historical events and the players involved. We can correct possible flaws and discrepancies in reports of history but, have to guard the truth in our history minus the emotion.

Good Historical Clarification

I seen one review saying this should be taught in our schools today. I couldn’t agree more.
