About this listen

An emotional, revealing memoir of one family’s life in seclusion - and the love, strength, and faith it took to save it.

Seahawks star running back Curt Warner and his wife, Ana, were prominent figures in Seattle in the early 1990s. When they dropped from the public eye after Curt’s retirement, everyone assumed it was for a simpler life. But the reality behind their seclusion was a secret they hid from even their closest friends: their twins, Austin and Christian, had been diagnosed with severe autism. What followed was a painful struggle to hold their family and their marriage together in a home filled with chaos, emotional exhaustion, and constant fear for the safety of their unpredictable but beloved boys.

Now, after years of silence, the Warners share their inspiring journey from stardom and success to heartbreaking self-imposed isolation. Above all, it’s a story of the life-changing truth that love for family and each other - no matter how challenged - is the path to healing and peace.

The Warner Boys is the true story of a family who fought for their children and how they grew stronger against all odds.

Critic reviews

“Healing and transformative, this memoir of love and faith shows no situation is beyond hope.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

“Ana and Curt Warner have written a memoir that could reach readers on many levels… Rather than supporting one side or argument over another, the authors depict how they achieved what all parents want: the best possible lives for their children.” (Booklist, starred review)

The Warner Boys is a beautiful heartfelt book written by Curt and Ana Warner, who share with the reader the reality of parenting two beautiful twin boys with an autism diagnosis… This book is now high on my list of must-reads for any individual, parent, or other family member impacted by autism, as well as anyone wanting to understand autism.” (Scott Badesch, president/chief executive officer, Autism Society of America)

As a Special Education teacher of several students with autism, this book brought me to tears, smiles and laughter throughout. Beautifully written and read. An added bonus for me, was that as a Penn State alumni it was about a fellow alum. Highly recommend!!

This book gave me an inside look into families that deal with Autism. I now have more compassion and empathy. I love how Austin and Christian have moments of genius. We have to understand their world they do not have to understand ours. Their world made sense to them and we have to figure it out. Its us that do not understand. Austin and Christian you guys rock be Blessed thank you

Was looking for a book to.listen to about autism and found this one. I really got a lot.out of it. The Warners have a great perspective. It was really helpful. I am marrying a woman with child that has autism. She is higher the spectrum, but this was a helpful perspective.

Great Book

Loved the vulnerability and spirit that provide such perseverance and servantship. I appreciated the honesty in the struggle that inspires us all to be better and have gratitude daily for life. Just a bonus for me that they are part of the Penn State family. Many thanks and prayers and I highly recommend this book! Could not put it down.

Humbling, inspiring and REAL!

A Families Love Story

I have 2 grandsons who are cousins, but have one major thing in common: they are both on the Autism Spectrum. They are just 4 months apart in age. The younger of the 2 has the lesser of the symptoms, he’s classified as very high functioning. His main problem now is social skills. He was diagnosed at 2.5 yrs old. At the time, he had a very limited vocabulary and preferred to be by himself. He will be entering high school this fall and has been mainstreamed since grade school. The older one is slightly further down on the spectrum. He also has ADHD and OCD, which I’ve learned from this book is quite common in kids with ASD. I love Curt and Ana’s story!! And I have something in common with Curt: we both come from Southern West Virginia in the coal fields, although different counties and different upbringings. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to know more about ASD and/or has a loved one on the spectrum.

Love this book!!!
