Publisher's summary

With a postscript describing SEAL efforts in Afghanistan, The Warrior Elite takes you into the toughest, longest, and most relentless military training in the world. What does it take to become a Navy SEAL? What makes talented, intelligent young men volunteer for physical punishment, cold water, and days without sleep? In The Warrior Elite, former Navy SEAL Dick Couch documents the process that transforms young men into warriors. SEAL training is the distillation of the human spirit, a tradition-bound ordeal that seeks to find men with character, courage, and the burning desire to win at all costs, men who would rather die than quit.

A Chosen Few

What made the experience of listening to The Warrior Elite the most enjoyable?

The book is written for a beginner, such as myself, who knows nothing about the Navy Seals. I'm not an expert by any means, now that I've finished the book but I can say that I could talk with someone about the Navy Seals and be knowledgeable. The book would also be an excellent read for anyone who has any knowledge about the Navy Seals.

What did you like best about this story?

The knowledge that the author imparted to me. The information furnished seems overwhelming when you start at the initiation of a man/woman putting in their name to be put on the list to begin seal training, until the moment that a person becomes a seal. However, after starting this book I only wanted to soak in any and all information that the author could provide. I now understand why our men/women are so very proud of what they have accomplished. I no longer have to wonder how or why the US navy can and do provide such excellence in their chosen few.

Have you listened to any of Arthur Morey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The book has a vault of information that I could not have understood if I had even wanted to finish listening to it all in one sitting. I needed time to absorb the information.

Any additional comments?

This book has helped me to apply facts to books that I now read by such author's as Brad Thor, W.E.B. Griffin, Robert Littell, to name only a few. Books written by the aforementioned author's have certainly had to do extensive research to write their books.Books are written to be fun to read and understand. I'm so glad that I somehow selected a book about the US military because it has provided me with an unquenchable thirst to learn more.

Narration

The narrator did a fantastic job telling the story. I was able to fully understand Dick Couch’s story and stay focused. Usually people do not listen to audio books due to the speaker. However this books narrator will not disappoint. Anyone who is interested in learning about America’s finest warriors should listen to this audio book.

Riveting and Relevant

Couch's look into the lives of BUDS class 228 is both informative and relevant. By following the day to day life of these Navy SEAL trainees the reader is able to not only understand what it takes it takes to become a SEAL, but also the kind of grit the person must have in order to complete training. A mixture of heart, endurance, luck and persistence is a required trait for these men, and the book displays this by describing the obstacles the trainees must face---and clear.

A lot of things have changed since when this book was written in 2003, and it is interesting to hear about men featured in this book, like Marcus Luttrell, who is now a Navy Cross recipient for his actions during Operation Freedom. While some specifics of training might have changed, the fundamentals have not.

As SEALS are becoming more and more relevant today, especially in the killing of Osama Bin Laden, this book serves as a premier source to discover the qualities of the men that wear the SEAL trident.

Best Book About BUD/S

This book taught me a great deal about what BUD/S is like, what it takes to get through BUD/S, and what it takes to be a Navy SEAL. I appreciated that this book was written by a SEAL Vietnam veteran. The book was very well written, and the narration was amazing. I’d highly recommend this book if you’re generally interested in the SEAL Teams.
