About this listen

Wanted: Volunteers for Project Delta. Will guarantee you a medal. A body bag. Or both.

With this call to arms, Charlie Beckwith revolutionized American armed combat. Beckwith's acclaimed memoir tells the story of Delta Force as only its maverick creator could tell it - from the bloody baptism of Vietnam to the top-secret training grounds of North Carolina to political battles in the upper levels of the Pentagon itself. This is the heart-pounding, first-person insider's view of the missions that made Delta Force legendary.

This book is goooood!

This book is goooood! The narrator was of Delta Force caliber. This book gave a great deal more insight into the creation of delta and I found very interesting in the process to set up a new command in the military.

I knew bits and pieces of the story and now it is good to be able to fill in the blanks.

A man who made his tribe

What made the experience of listening to Delta Force the most enjoyable?

This provides an insight that is often missed when looking at SMU's. Conventional experts solving asymmetrical problem sets with massive amounts of training. It explains the independent Alpha personalities that staff these billets. Also hidden between the lines is a play book on how create and sell an idea.

Good not Great

Beginning I found boring narrator not the best. Eagle claw
Was interesting. How could you not send a back up wave of Helos?

I Knew a Large Part of the Story…

…However, I still learned a tremendous amount. The only book I know that reveals the whole story of Delta, “if they exist.” ;-) Just read it. It’s now in my Top Ten books ever.

From the beginning of Delta Force.

History is sometimes just hard to understand. I lived through the Iran hostage crisis but never knew all the details of the failed mission. This book plumbs you up from the start of Delta to the desert of Iran.

good book but...

this was a great look into the way delta force was created. my only qualm with this book was it took 18 chapters to tell the story of one mission only I wanted to hear about more successes of the unit

Good histroric account , great narration his voice is like and old salty grunt telling you his personal field experiences. Story very imformative with tons if details on the development of Delta and other special ops command, long engaging acounts, I recommend it.

A tall glass of American hero for my daily commute

I would be amiss to not first point out that this narrator is superb for this book. The story would thrill any listener even with an average narration, but Alan Sklar does a remarkable job and adds wonderful drama to a truly heroic true story of the incredible Charlie Beckwith.
