About this listen

On the verge of Mt. St. Helens' historic eruption, three women must face the mountain: two to search for their missing husbands; the third, to rediscover her life . . .

After a local mountain becomes a deadly and imminent threat, three strikingly different women become linked in a desperate mission.

Children's author Katherine Sommers is searching for her depressed husband, David, and their son Brian, camping together on Mt. St. Helens' tumultuous north slope. Mellie Sedor seeks her husband, Daniel, who has taken a logging job to pay for their daughter's chemotherapy. Fashion photographer Jen Stockton joins Cowlitz County Sheriff Frank McKenzie, himself the victim of a brutal loss, in his quest to evacuate the awakening volcano.

Jen came to the mountain in an effort to recover the peace she experienced as a child. Instead, she finds destruction and heroism, tragedy and friendship.

When Women Strive Together, They Can Face Even the Unthinkable.

Annoying interpretation

I have listened to this narrator on many, many of my favorite author’s (Lauraine Snelling) books and enjoyed he interpretations. But in this book, I’m genuinely sorry to say that the repetitive pauses, inflection, drawing out of words and phraseology became down right annoying. I couldn’t wait for the story to conclude so I didn’t have to listen anymore.

Double Whammy!

I chose this book because my big sister lived on a dairy farm on the southeast side at the bottom of Mt. St. Helen. I remember the day I saw the eruption on tv and called my sis to see how they were. I couldn't get through and was terrified. I reached her a couple of days later and our family took a collective sigh of relief. As I continued listening to the story, I realized there was a lot more to this book and this wouldn't be easy to finish. Wives becoming widows is a hard subject for me and I realized I was likely going to learn something hard that I needed. Lauraine Snelling's books have a way of touching a person's heart. Sure enough, that was the case. Excellent story as usual. Ms. Beaulieu's narration added a lot to the experience. Excellent book all around -- as always. (Deep breath followed by a sigh and a small smile...)

How hard life can be.

This story was too heavy for me. I am sensitive to sadness and felt many times I should stop listening. Good story, just not good for me.

The story drags and I just can’t get into it.

Usually Lauraine Snellings book please me, but this one is a lemon. I don’t know if anything to say I am just disappointed in this one.
