About this listen

An accident of birth holds the future of a nation.

Meet Kalena. Taken under the Empire’s Second Born rule, she is now a part of the Hatar Kalar, the Emperor’s flying corps. Being paired with a large, feathered carnivore is not all it’s cracked up to be, and Kalena and her new Hatar partner find themselves embroiled in affairs way beyond their pay grade. Ice Tigers, enemy nations, internal strife, and the fate of an Empire are now balanced precariously on Kalena’s shoulders, and she has no idea which way it will fall.

This collection contains the first five books of the epic fantasy saga The Way to Freedom (Does not include book 1.1 - The Cavern of Sethi).

Captivating

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is a very interesting story. It brings you in from the beginning and There is so many little things that you don’t expect to happen. And one thing I hope would happen. If there is a season 2 it will be on my wishlist to get. I need to know how this series ends.
The ice tigers are some of my favorite characters along with the hatar. There is also a sinister plot with the kings mistress trying to take over the kingdom. Crazy good story.

slow story

I bought the 5 book set. The end of the 5th story was supposed to be a cliffhanger. I'm not going to listen any further. The story took a huge jump in bk4 and it makes very little sense. the narrator was slow and sleepy and the story was poorly written. The story line was a good idea but it needed to the built up into a full novel.

Could be better

Overall the performance was good. Her pronunciation of what I assume was the word lieutenant was interesting for me. But overall pretty good. As for the writing. I think the author did great with the world building, the characters are good enough to hold my attention, and the overall plot seems to be moving in a good direction. That being said the endings are each abrupt and out of nowhere. None of the books feel like a complete book. There’s also some plot devices used lazily like amnesia or reveals that could have done much better. If I were an editor I’d probably say this is a good first draft.

Did Not Finish

Between a boring "meh" storyline and an annoying narrator's voice, I simply cannot finish this book. Waste of my credit.
