About this listen

It's time for the dragon marked to rise...

Jessa Lebron doesn’t have a lot to complain about. Her father is the alpha of their wolf pack, she lives in Stratford - a protected supernatural prison town - and her best friends, the Compass quads, are the strongest dudes of the four races: shifter, vampire, fey, and magic user.

Yep, life is pretty much exactly how she wants it. Until the fateful day, just after her 22nd birthday, when the mother who abandoned her returns to the pack, bearing secrets that change everything.

The biggest secret of all: Jessa is dragon-marked, a designation that places her in grave danger.

For a thousand years, every supernatural child born with the mark was eliminated to prevent the rise of the dragon king, a fearsome ancient warmonger. In a bid to learn more about her fate and how to avoid the hunters, Jessa finds herself locked in Vanguard, the notorious supernatural prison.

Thankfully, she’s not alone. Braxton Compass, the most feared of the dragon shifters, is right there with her. Together, they’ll have to survive long enough to free themselves and the other dragon marked, before the king rises.

Fast paced but great

I like that it keeps moving along, The world details are superb as are the characters. A fantastic choice for narrator.

To clear some things up...

Y’all, someone actually said the narrator was monotone and the MC (main character) was obsessed with food which made her not like the book. I am obsessed with not only food, but everythinggggg Jaymin writes and I can say, DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT REVIEW! Get this book, NOW, and you will not regret it! I fell in love and I cannot wait for the next one!! 😍❤️

Loved it!

I loved this book. Love the heroine, love Braxton, all of it. I even like the cover, which often has protags with the wrong hair, eye color, and other features that don't match at all with the description of them inside the book. The only mistake with this cover was that the dragon mark is on her right side on the cover rather than the left, where it should be based on her description inside the book. I enjoyed how we got to see Jessa's life before all the craziness began, and her interesting connection with the four brothers. I also enjoyed how the author gave us tantalizing bits of information that would get my imagination going and make me think I knew what would happen next, only to find out that I was right about some parts only to be totally wrong about the others. It kept me on my toes and kept me interested in where the story is going. I had a feeling from the start that there would be quite a few moments of indignation throughout the book, since a powerful female is almost always met with men that want to strip her of any power she may hold, and I was quite right on that front. I felt a full spectrum of emotions while listening; joy, anger, sadness, all of it. That's the mark of a good book for me; being able to feel for the characters means I was able to connect with them enough in my head to be invested in their welfare. I definitely felt that way throughout this book, and although we have a slight idea that the way the dragon marked are perceived is incorrect in the assumption that they're going to help bring about the ruin of the world (because come on, Jessa is anything but evil), I'm interested to see what happens next. I don't know if it's a spoiler to make a guess, but I have this feeling Braxton is a reincarnation of this dragon king they talked about, and that the story from 1000 years ago has been skewed to make the king look like a bad guy when that isn't truly the case. I hope that's the case, anyway. Either way, it will be quite a ride going forward, that's for sure!

Over all good read

overall it was a good read. There are points in X where the story was really detailed and I was just ready for the offer to move on so I could find out what was going to happen next. There are also a few times that the main character does really dumb things that I wanted to just shake her, but it's a story and it wouldn't have had the ending that it did without her making those dumb young girl mistakes. I will be buying book two.

oh my shifter!

This tale has an intriguing storyline and interesting characters. The world building is incredible along with the introduction in to it being clear and easy to follow.
It's also clean (gasps in horror, I know! No one warned me.) There is violence but no smexy business here (so far).
I love Jaymin and have read several other works by her; thought we'd delve in here and am not disappointed.

Wow this was really good!

I was looking for something new, something with a little bit of everything and that would keep my mind busy when going crazy at work. This was perfect. I like that author took the time to describe the characters so well I feel like I was watching a movie. I love the mystery and the way I really hope things end up happening. I find myself thinking on who will end up mating or who will fight for who’s love. I will definitely get the next book on this series and even though it has no hot steamy scenes I did imagine what could happen when the dragons finally admit whats right in front of them. Happy reading!!

Interesting character and great story but the voice is a bit annoying at times.

The narrative voice is not able to really have different characters portrayed well as individual characters
