About this listen

The Wig, the Bitch & the Meltdown is a satirical look behind the scenes of Model Muse, a fictional reality model competition show and global phenomenon. Seen through the eyes of our moral compass Pablo Michaels - the heart of production in the helter-skelter world of Model Muse - we see behind the scenes and backstage shenanigans of the fashion/reality TV world.

As "The Fixer", Pablo is the man everyone turns to in crisis. Struggling to hold the fledgling production together, he juggles his duties to his "BFF", the ruthless and vulnerable antihero Keisha Kash, his supermodel boss, while trying to hold on to his own soul.

When the show is renewed after its sensational first season, this satire takes up where The Devil Wears Prada left us, only now we're on the runway itself. Think Crazy Rich Asians meets Ladies Who Punch and a dish of Dulce de Leche.

If your an ANTM fan I would definitely recommend reading/listening. It has a few iconic moments and top models from the show you’ll definitely remember and Jay Manuel will definitely leave you thinking did this really happen behind the scenes or is this just fiction.

Best Fan fiction ever

If you are familiar with ANTM, Jay Manuel and all the others you'll recognize moments and characters however they are over the top satire. Very well read and written. Wonderful guilty pleasure.

Delicious!

I love Mr. Jay, and I feel bad as a fan to say that I didn’t quite enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. It has its funny moments, and a lot of comical references to real things that happened in the ANTM show, but the story didn’t really have any stand out plot lines. In addition, I felt like the narrator was a bit on the dull side and I think perhaps the book would have been better if it’d been read by Mr. Jay himself. Overall, it was so so.

Fan of Mr. Jay, not a fan of this book

So Jay Manuel has taken the plot of Mean Girls and superimposed it on a fictional version of America’s Next Top Model. Take a somehow simultaneously fresh faced, starstruck and very connected silver-haired, adopted Pablo Michael (Jay) as our Cady Heron and the supremely narcissistic supermodel Keisha Kash (Tyra) as Regina George, and supplement with a barrage of the worst possible caricatures of the most famous faces from ANTM; Runway Coach Miss Thing (Miss J), British Photographer Mason Hughes (Nigel Barker), and Judge/“World’s First Supermodel” Sasha Berenson (Janice Dickinson).

Basically: boy meets supermodel, boy becomes supermodel’s minion. Boy realizes supermodel is evil. Boy tries to fight evil with evil and people start telling him he’s become evil. Tada! Mean Girls, but it’s ANTM. (But not actually ANTM because this is fiction and ANTM exists in this world, but that’s a whole other mess…)

The actor probably made this sound better then it would on it’s own, so there’s that at least. Just go watch Mean Girls, really. They wore it better.

Mean Girls, but it’s America’s Next Top Model

So I absolutely love America's Top Model and have seen every single episode of every cycle about 3 times (sometimes more) Jay says this book is fiction inspired by reality so It was a good little peek into the behind the scenes, if only fictitiously. I definitely recommend the book. it was a good listen. The narrator was not my favorite, he tried too hard and the nuance, and his performance was allover the place to the point some characters sounded Irish, others almost offensively effeminate or urban, Keisha's mom sounded like a gruff man etc. but the material is good enough to speak for itself.

ANTM superfan enjoyed this book.

Provided mindless entertainment. Just what I was looking for. It took a while to get past the rather robotic narrative.

Mindless entertainment
