Publisher's summary
Alaska Thunderf--k spills the tea on her meteoric rise from timid Pennsylvania kid to drag superstar in this intimate photographic memoir that will appeal to diehard Alaska admirers and broader drag fans alike.
Before RuPaul's Drag Race became a worldwide phenomenon, Drag was mostly an underground art form, performed by the daring and the quick-witted, with maximum energy and a minimal budget. This is the story of one of the galaxy's greatest queens, Alaska Thunderf--k 5000, as she transforms from wearing dresses made of trash bags because she has to, to wearing dresses made of trash bags because she wants to. Finally coming clean on her home planet (Earth), this dishy, visual memoir tells the stories that shaped Alaska into an all star: from prom king to the House of Haunt, to the very public breakup that almost destroyed her. Intimate and alluring with exclusive photography throughout, and illustrations by the author, My Name's Yours, What's Alaska? is the ultimate backstage pass.
Unique and personal: Chronicling Alaska's journey from small-town kid to drag superstar, this memoir stands out for its emotional resonance, distinct humor, and unapologetic realness. Filled with compelling personal stories told in Alaska's unique voice, it gives fans an exclusive look at Justin Honard the person, not just Alaska Thunderf--k the drag queen.
LGBTQIA+ representation: LGBTQIA+ consumers will see their experiences and passions reflected in Alaska's authenticity and openness about her childhood struggles, and will be excited by a drag memoir that celebrates the whole story of queerness, not just the sassy, shady highlights.
Great gift for fans of RuPaul's Drag Race: Behind the scenes stories of Alaska's journey to RuPaul's Drag Race fame, alongside full-color photography of Alaska's iconic trash-glam looks throughout her career, will deliver the exclusive content fans crave.
Perfect for:
- Diehard drag fans
- Fans of Alaska Thunderf--k, RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Trixie Mattel, Bianca del Rio, Sharon Needles, Magnus Hastings, Cherri Baum, Veruca, and more
- RuPaul's Drag Race enthusiasts who want to deep dive into a famous queen's rise to stardom

Thanks to her snarky frankness, impeccable comedic timing, and politically incorrect humor, she became the show’s breakout star, winning its sixth season. In Blame It on Bianca Del Rio, Bianca shares her opinions loudly and proudly, offering raucous, hilarious, no-holds-barred commentary on annoyances, big and small.

This book is a quilt, piecing together memoir, history, and theory into a living portrait of an artist and an art. Sasha Velour illuminates drag as a unique form of expression with a rich history and a revolutionary spirit. Each chapter strips off a new layer, removing one tantalizing glove and then another, to reveal all the twists and turns in the life of a queen. As Sasha recalls her own journey, from the women who raised her, to learning the craft of an artist, to success, disaster, and more, she also uncovers the history of queer life around the world that made it all possible.

Vivica A. Fox is a dynamo who has created a lasting career on her own, through sheer, roll-up-your-sleeves DIY hustle. Every Day I'm Hustling is a personal book with a message Fox passionately believes in: that you make your own luck, that you never ever wake up in the morning thinking somebody's going to call you and offer you that part or ask you out on that date that's going to change your life, that you have to wake up and put on your longest eyelashes and fiercest heels and go out and make your life happen yourself.

For more than 40 years—whether writing for Richard Pryor and Saturday Night Live or performing stand-up to sold-out crowds around the country—Paul Mooney has been provocative, incisive...and absolutely hilarious. His comedy has always been indisputably real and raw, reflecting race issues in America, and this fascinating, fearless new memoir continues that unapologetically candid tradition.

In 1963, 30-year-old Friedman - who had recently quit his job as a Boston advertising executive and returned to his hometown of New York to become a theatrical producer - opened a coffee house for Broadway performers called the Improvisation. His goal? Simply to make a living, and if all went according to plan, to also make enough professional contacts to be able to mount his first Broadway show within a year's time. Later shortened to the Improv, its first West 44th Street location was in a seedy section of Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen.

The New York Times best-selling biography of an American comedy legend. After three years of sobriety, Chris Farley's life was at its creative peak until a string of professional disappointments chased him back to drugs and alcohol. He fought hard against them, but it was a fight he would lose in December 1997. Farley's fans immediately drew parallels between his death and that of his idol, John Belushi. Without looking deeper, however, many failed to see that Farley was much more than just another Hollywood drug overdose. In this officially authorized oral history, Farley's friends and family remember his work and life.

Alaska at Her Best
This audiobook delivers on introducing you through the path to fame for Alaska quite well. You will hear the name drops, the friends and exes that made her who she is, but it goes beyond that to deliver a quite substantial memoir about the coming of age and personal development of Justin Howard, the person behind the persona.
Justin speaks openly and honestly about his experiences as a queer child and through his young adulthood that take this beyond the typical drag queen chuckle book. His story of trying and failing to live within his imposed social role can resonate with quite a lot of listeners, whether they are queer or have simply experienced a feeling of not fitting in. His story of chasing dreams and love connections around the country-often having reality come crashing down on his romanticized expectations-is a solid vehicle to demonstrate his personal development as self-confident person. I left the book feeling like Justin did his best to let us in on his world, and it made this book stand out from the rest of his work-more than that, it stood out from the plethora of other RuGirl books we’ve seen published.
Lastly, Alaska is in part known for her voice. You know it when you hear it, and I’m sure some might find it polarizing. Give her a listen on another platform and decide if you hate it or it’s the best thing ever. For me, personally…I love her eclectic speaking patterns, and she doesn’t fail to deliver a solid performance. I think this book is by far best consumed in its audiobook format.

Deep appreciation for Alaska! Must read!
I love a memoir kind of vibe and this gives me such joy and appreciation for Alaska’s talent! Alaska has always been a fav of mine and after listening to the sweet vocals of my Queen for the last few hours, I have such a deeper admiration for their natural talent and greater understanding of how hard Alaska has worked to achieve the success they’ve had. I find my inner voice now sounds like an inner Alaska. Emphasis on the second a and s, of course!
I’ve fallen in love while listening to Race Chaser and now my one sided relationship has taken the next step, completing both Alaska and Willams books.
This is such a must read and actually feels like you’re having a heart to heart with your bestie. I was really surprised to hear the deets on Sharon, as I have ogled them for a while- it was really interesting to learn about Alaskas sensitive/emotional side when it comes to love. Alaska, she’s just like us!
A+, 10/10, 100% and more.
Oh, and if you haven’t listened to “Red” yet, please do that now or resolve to live a life missing a timeless beat that will be stuck in your head…red.
P.S. Jeremy sounds like such a darling wonderful person- love love love!
