About this listen

A warrior is measured by the strength of his enemies, and the beast is a fearsome foe.

Among the Northern Cheyenne of the Great Plains lives a boy named Winterfox, whose family has fought monsters since the days of the Spanish conquistadors. In the aftermath of Westward Expansion, he has become the sole heir to their blood feud against the Beast.

Winterfox comes of age in the long shadows of the American frontier, a time when magic has not yet passed into myth. It is a place where the mundane and fantastic still walk side by side, and the warrior society of the Rédo’osnin Dog Men will be remembered a little while longer.

Hidden away for almost a hundred years, the story behind the legend can finally be revealed. Told from his own journals, this first installment in the life of Michael Winterfox follows the early years of a fierce youth from an outlawed culture; a youth who will ultimately become the venerable hermit and mentor in the original Autobiography of a Werewolf Hunter trilogy.

OUTSTANDING PREQUEL!!!

An epic prequel and continuation of what is already, and without a doubt, one of the greatest werewolf stories of all time based off my own opinion! I have listened to a lot of werewolf tales and short stories mainly because I'm a big fan of this type of horror and genre but have never come across stories quite like this! Brian P. Easton cleverly weaves his tales together into one conclusive story where man is pitted against a beast of unknown origins and so gets wrapped up into something that seems completely out of this world and not possible only to find out that what they are dealing with is not only real but a living breathing nightmare! The autobiography of a werewolf hunter series has become some of my personal favorite audio books that I have no problem listening to over again and again just because of the quality of character development and story telling that is involved. With the Winterfox journals were given a glimpses into Michael's mysterious past and upbringing that made him into one of the finest Native American warrior's of his time that not only hunted werewolf's but also ghouls, demons and spooks during his day! He is without a doubt one of my favorite characters in any story and, personally I would be honored to train under someone like him as Sylvester did within the story that made him into an even greater hunter than his grandfather during the course of the first three books! Definitely worth the credit or purchase but I would recommend going back and listening to the first three stories before listening the Winterfox journals. In conclusion two nig thumbs way, way up!

Well Witten, Great Story, &Fantastic Narration!

I LOVE Werewolf (ww), vampire, beast etc stories. Unfortunately this is usually a guarantee of stupid, immature characters, terrible writing, & detailed descriptions of sex/gore that's irrelevant to building a character or story line. This book (as his last 3 books) is the type of writing I like - suspense/horror, strong characters, great writing/ plot, even the parts describing ww lore & remarks that give insight into actual treatment of Native tribes - all packaged in this story.
The narration is absolutely fantastic! Easton's use of "authetic sounding" Native names & words make it all the better. This makes me want to re read book 1 because I now have a better idea of who's who, background, & ww lore.
The only downside is Easton's stories can occassionally be difficult to follow due to the number of characters, Native words & extensive ww lore. I would like a little more 'scare' but still, this book is another ww book that ranks high on my list. 👍

Ok Easton, I'm waiting for book #5, and this time pls dont wait so long between writings or in getting the audible version.

Fantastic

I'm not one for prequels because they usually fall short(Star Wars) but this book falls in with the original titles perfectly. the storyline & narration were great & I look foreward to the next book of Winterfox.

Counting Coup and Taking Scalps

If you ever wondered what it would be like if the popular video game Red Dead Redemption, had John Marston been hunting down werewolf outlaws, this is an audio-story for you. The Voice acting is like an old friend as Basil Sands reads the words of Michael Winterfox as if Sylvester is reading the journals himself getting a glimpse into the History of his family and the Feud. There is no point after you accept the fact that in this universe that werewolves exist that you must suspend your disbelief because of Narrative jumps or literary leaps of faith. Count Coup and Take Scalps in the Tragic origin of a wise man when He was a green horned boy.
