About this listen

A Nose to Tail Novel

The last thing Sebastian Zeller wants is to be pack Alpha. But when the pack leader, his uncle Ron, is attacked, he has no choice but to leave his beloved Colorado mountains and fulfill his duty as Ron’s heir - at least until his uncle recovers. In the meantime, he intends to lure the attacker out...and make them pay.

When Ron gets wind of Sebastian’s plan to catch the attacker, he doesn’t like the idea of risking his heir. That’s where Jaxon Reedis comes in - he’ll balance protecting the dark and sexy werewolf with pretending to be his personal assistant. He’s walking a fine line that requires all his foxy wit and craftiness...and that’s on top of the inescapable feeling that he and Sebastian are meant for each other. When the attacker returns, will they be able to maintain their deepening bond when danger threatens to tear down everything they’re building?

Enjoyable story but struggled with the narration

This is the second book in the series. I haven't read/listened to book 1 but I can say that it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of this story and there wasn't anything that I didn't understand.
Sebastian is currently searching for the people who attacked his uncle Ron along with his friend Alan. Ron wants Seb to take over as Alpha for him whilst Seb can't think of anything worse. He'd much rather be at his home on the edge of pack lands doing his work in design and creation. Unbeknownst to him, Ron has hired a bodyguard. Enter Jaxon.
Jaxon is a fox and a bodyguard. His latest mark, Sebastian, doesn't know who he is and so he goes in undercover as Seb's assistant. There's more than he bargained for when the attackers come specifically after Sebastian but also because of the connection he feels instantly towards the man.
There is a great story line throughout this book, both with the drama and action that unfolds with attacks occurring against Sebastian and also with the feelings and connection that unfold between the two MC's.
I love the part of shifter stories when mates know by instinct who their mate is but the ones that try and fight it make it so much more interesting. They both resist the connection they feel, first just limiting interaction before learning that they actually make really good friends. Though it doesn't take long for things to take that next step. The emotion that is felt by the men is well written, coming through in their thoughts, words and actions towards each other.
The mystery of who is attacking Sebastian takes a long time to figure out and they need help from other members of the pack on several occasions. Tyrone is an Elk and long time friend of Sebastian's who is his driver and security when out and about. Alan is another alpha within the pack who is like the brother Sebastian never had. Both men are always there for each other and his support throughout the story is invaluable.
I got really invested in the outcome of the story both in relation to the mystery and the character's relationship. I am looking forward to going back and reading book 1. I'd recommend this shifter story for those who enjoy action and mystery in their books.

Narration - 3 out of 5 - With regards to the narration of this book, I found that I struggled to connect when listening. It was well paced, with different voices for each character. However, Joseph's voice varied a lot in pitch within a sentence and, for me, it didn't allow me to enjoy the story as much as I could have.
I received a copy from the publisher and am happily giving a review.
