About this listen

The classic children's tale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum follows the adventures of young Dorothy, who lives in Kansas with her Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. As many fans know from the beloved film adaptation of the book, a terrible swirling cyclone sweeps through the prairie area where Dorothy and her family are living, and in an attempt to get to safety, Dorothy's dog Toto buries himself under a bed. The house is picked up by the extreme winds, and when Dorothy awakens after the event, she is no longer in the town she calls home. Dorothy comes to find out that her house has crushed the Wicked Witch of the East, that she has freed the Munchkins from enslavement, and that she must now return to Kansas after she tracks down the Wizard of Oz in Emerald City.

Along the way, Dorothy acquires friends and comrades such as the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion, who help her along her journey on the yellow brick road. The group encounters a series of hurdles, including one in which they have to kill the Wicked Witch of the West. At the end of her quest, Dorothy discovers that she had the power to return home all along and does so with a simple click of her bedazzled silver heels. Upon returning to the prairie, Dorothy has never felt so relieved to see her aunt and her uncle.
