About this listen

"Attention, Bridgerton fans: if you're ready to delve deeper into the world of historical romances, The Worst Duke in the World by Lisa Berne is a fun place to start." —Pop Sugar

A wayward duke must choose: will he be the bad hero in a love story gone awry, or the brave and clever hero who risks everything for true love? The acclaimed Penhallow Dynasty series continues in this fresh, fun, funny tale!

Life’s no bowl of cherries for Anthony Farr, the Duke of Radcliffe. Duty demands he remarry to provide a spare to go along with the heir—and eligible ladies keep trying to finagle him into a proposal. All he wants is to be a good father to his 8-year-old son, see the Duchess (his truly terrific pig) win first prize at the harvest fête, and stay single. Even if that makes him a Bad Duke. Maybe the Worst Duke in the World.

Then Miss Jane Kent, a long-lost relation of the illustrious Penhallow family, arrives in the neighborhood and is promptly befriended by the Duke’s son. Jane, Anthony comes to realize, is smart and fun and also very kissable and dazzlingly desirable. Still, that’s not enough to melt his resistance to marrying again. He made a stern promise to himself and promises must, of course, be kept.

But what if that’s just his head talking, and his heart . . . is saying something entirely different?

“Delicious.” —Sarah MacLean, The Washington Post, on You May Kiss the Bride

Great Characters & Story

I really loved this book. I was not sure what to expect with that title, but was hooked on the series, so went for it....and glad I did!
The H/H are funny. I love how they always think of food and what they want to eat ( a little like me, so I can relate). Their dialogue was realistic. Just 2 people getting to know each other. No smooth lines , but simple and easy to understand how they started to like each other. Their were some twists, and even though I knew there would be a HEA, I still had some doubts.
The best part of the book was the duke's son Wakefield. He was just extraordinary, funny, silly and loveable. Moira Quirk did a great job with all the characters, but Wake was the best. In so many of the scenes I would just start laughing out loud....in these times we all need to laugh. The scenes between the duke and his son are so heartwarming, I fell a little in love with the duke bit by bit. I wished there were more of these scenes, but the book would have been too long.
Moira Quirk is one of my favorite narrators, but she does not read a lot of books. I wish I could find more and look forward to any book she narrates. She did such a great job, it was like several people were reading this book.
I can't recommend this book more. I restarted it as soon as I was finished, it was that good. Well worth a credit!

Funny and Romantic

Brilliant and witty writing and perfect lively narration. This combination is unbeatable. The clever, resourceful—both sweet and tough—woman and the stubborn but tender hearted duke were a perfect match. The wit was engaging and made me laugh out loud several times. Lisa Berne is my new favorite author of historical romances.

Fresh change

What a pleasant change from the same old “style!” It actually does have humor in it and although many books claim humor, this one actually delivers! Although it’s a bit slow, it’s completely non-stressful, clean, and nice and easy to listen to! One of those books that you can just sit back and enjoy! The narrator does a fantastic job! I will now be looking for other books by this author and narrator. Great work!

5 star Historical Romantic Comedy

Lisa Berne succeeded in making me laugh constantly. This book is so well written reminding me of the Lisa Klepas Ravenels series. Moira Quirk did a brilliant job narrating. What a fantabulous book.

Great story and narration

This may be my most favorite yet but will admit I say that with each book in the series. Each story is delightfully different and the narration is perfect. Thoroughly enjoyable.

The little boy was adorable, and the father son relationship was the sweetest thing.

Such an adorable story I enjoy the whole book I found myself smiling through it all. Worth the credit.
I didn’t want it to end. I’m going to try another book from the series.
