Publisher's summary

The only survivor of Denver’s notorious “Reaper” serial murders, FBI Special Agent Kendall Beck grapples with the ghosts of her past by seeking justice for victims of abuse. She’s neck-deep in a particularly ugly case involving the disappearance of five-year-old Emily Williams when her investigation is derailed - her best friend and roommate, Gwen Tavich, turns up dead, floating in a nearby lake.

Devastated by the news of Gwen’s death, Kendall teams up with Denver Detective Adam Taylor to find the killer. Gwen’s fiancé, Ty Butler, is being evasive about the last time he saw Gwen, and as the evidence mounts against him, he’s arrested for the murder. With every new clue, Kendall questions how well she really knew her friend. And when Gwen’s dark secrets begin spilling out one by one, she begins to understand the devastating magnitude of the murder. The Reaper has returned to Denver - and he’s not stopping at just one victim.

As the trauma of Kendall’s past comes roaring back, she and Adam have no time to spare before more bodies start piling up. And then Kendall makes a shocking discovery that reveals the horrifying truth behind Emily Williams’ disappearance. Now, Kendall must confront her darkest fears as she and the Reaper face off one more time.

Took a Chance

I found this book while looking for new material to read as I have read everything from my favorite authors. Series, thrillers, mysteries is my favorite genre. This is a good read and I enjoyed listening as the narrator did a great job. I will be adding Leanna Sparks and this series to my favorites. I am off to read book II.

A good who done it.

This story had an attention-getting beginning. I felt it lagged in the middle a bit. The characters are very likable and interesting. The narration is hard to get used to. For lack of a better word the speech is over enunciated. I did get used to it after awhile. A head’s up one of the investigations involves sexual abuse of children. There are two investigations going on and it seems the first one is forgotten for a time but they eventually get back to it. If you like FBI/police investigation stories you will like this story. It kept me guessing until close to the end.

Intriguing

I absolutely loved this detective story! Loved that it was set in Denver, Colorado! I knew the streets and areas they were talking about and made it feel like it was talking about real events in my neighborhood! I liked how easy the story was to follow and how all the details were laid out and it wasn’t confusing. I loved how quick the story picked up on the investigation. I’m looking forward to continue the series!

Good story

I thought this was a good who done it! It kept me guessing the whole way through. I wasn’t crazy about the language in it and SOME of the gruesome details, but I thought the story was good and worth the listen.

Decent thriller with female protagonist

TW for sexual assault against children and sexual violence against women. This story had many plates in the air, but all of them came together at the end. The title gives away the biggest twist, but the characters are still likable.

Show vs. tell

This story seems to trip over itself to use as many cliches as possible. However, its worst crime is that the author tells us too much instead of showing us through actions and dialogue what drives the characters and plot.
