Publisher's summary

Our pets are part of the family. For many they're as close as children; for some they may be our only children. And while most of us can expect that our children will outlive us, sadly, our pets almost never do.

Losing a pet can be as difficult as losing any other family member; we grieve, we miss them, and, mostly, we want closure, to know that our furry, feathered, or scaled friends are okay, wherever they are.

For years, animal communicator Sonya Fitzpatrick has helped pet owners cope with the loss of their beloved companions. Many of them ask the same questions: Is my pet happy? Why did this happen? Is it okay to get another pet? Using her personal experiences as well as the stories of the families she's worked with, Sonya sheds some light on the questions that every grieving pet owner has, and assures the reader that there are, in fact, no sad dogs (or cats or birds or turtles or horses or cows) in heaven.

Good Dogs Never Go; They Always Stay.

What did you love best about There Are No Sad Dogs in Heaven?

This has given me perspective and a piece of mind about the loss of my dog. Through consultations from Sonya's clients, she emphasizes that death is just the end of the physically body and the spirit is still very much alive and with us always.

What other book might you compare There Are No Sad Dogs in Heaven to and why?

Chicken Soup for the Soul. It is a series of different real life stories which are grouped into categories/ chapters and sub-categories.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me cry on and off as I mourned and slowly come to terms of the loss of my beloved dog.

Any additional comments?

I lost my beloved childhood dog on 11/4/13. The very next day, I found this book through a Yahoo News article that was featured. As Sonya mentions, our pet's spirit is still around us and wants us to be happy. I believe that my dog's spirit lead me to this book to help with my grieving.

Warm and touching it made me laugh it made me cry

I'm already a big fan of Sonya Fitzpatrick as I listen to her radio show each week. But after having recently lost my companion cat Zulu after 15 years, I was truly comforted by the stories in this book. Although not narrated by the author herself, Carol Irwin has a British accent similar to Sonya's, so it works just fine. Looking forward to listening to more of Sonya's work.

Great grief support

I loved this book but I can’t get over the chapter about Sarah and her Chihuahuas. I too got really upset after hearing the story. Too bad we can’t leave Sarah outside

worth the read

i recently had to give up my 4 cats. this audio book deals with the death of pets.
so listening to this audiobook is not quite the same. then again there are no large differences either. the author goes into some esoteric subjects, for example reincarnation. overall if you have lost a pet this audiobook will be of comfort. my personal situation is not too common. for me the loss of my beloved friends was the latest of a long series of loses. as they say this is the one that broke the camel's back.. at 75 years old i will never recover from this loss because i do not want too. my cats gave me a reason to get up in the morning. i no longer have that reason. if you do not mind or in fact believe in such things as mental telepathy then the book will ' read ' easy. but really a loss is a loss. deeply felt.

Great book for anyone grieving the loss of a pet..

What made the experience of listening to There Are No Sad Dogs in Heaven the most enjoyable?

The message is so comforting and uplifting. She validates that our sweet pets are still very much alive and are very happy in their spirit form. I've experiences many instances since listening that confirm that my dog is still with me, just as she says they are.Great book. While she does have an accent, she has such a pleasant and upbeat voice that she is fairly easy to follow. She also just has such an energetic and positive voice that she's fun to listen to.

What about Carol Irwin’s performance did you like?

Very upbeat, energetic voice. She speaks with clarity and the tone of her voice makes it easy to discern the words easily, even over the hum of computers and people around my office. I felt happy after listening.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - I have listened to it for hours at a time throughout the work day.
