About this listen
When Zelda inherits a magic castle, it comes with ten half-starved soldiers, empty coffers, and a serious attitude problem. The castle drains her energy like a magical parasite, her half-sister wants her dead, and the local tribes are betting on how long she'll last.
At least the neighboring warlord is handsome... when he's not fighting off her other suitor.
But things get interesting when a monster-breeding cult leader decides to add "castle ownership" to her collection of body modifications. Between training flying squads, managing a clothes-obsessed castle, and keeping her uncle from dying gloriously in battle, Zelda's got her hands full.
Good thing she's got a plan. It might be crazy, but that runs in the family.
The latest standalone novella in the beloved Goblin series delivers dark humor, unconventional romance, and a heroine who refuses to do things the easy way. After all, what's the point of inheriting a magic castle if you can't make it move?
No explicit content, standalone in the Goblin series. For fans of unconventional fantasy who like their magic with a side of snark. If you enjoyed the Howl's Moving Castle but wanted more politics and warriors, this is your book.
Perfect for readers who enjoy:
* Strong heroines who don't take themselves too seriously
* Fantasy politics with bite
* Magical buildings with personality
* Found family dynamics with a dash of warfare
Readers are saying:
“My favorite thing was definitely the living castle with the personality, and it had a satisfying violent end as promised.”
"Reminds me of The Goblin Emperor's political maneuvering mixed with Gail Carriger's humor. The castle magic system is unique though - I've never seen anything like it."
"Fans of T. Kingfisher's Clocktaur War will appreciate the blend of practical characters and unconventional magic. It has that same mix of humor and serious stakes."
"It's got the political complexity of Katherine Addison's work but with more action and a dash of Patricia Briggs' tribal dynamics. Perfect for readers who like their fantasy with both brains and brawn."

Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

For some it’s an opportunity. For others it’s a moment to question their faith: In God, in science, in everything. Still others try to keep the world running in the face of absurdity and uncertainty. And then there are the billions looking to the sky and wondering how a thing that was always just there is now... something absolutely impossible.

They call it tribute. It's just another word for sacrifice. When a weak human king offers brides to appease the goblin horde, the goblin king sees his chance. He'll wed them to his oldest generals; warriors whose time has passed. Two birds, one stone. Keep the humans in check, remind his generals they're disposable. Only problem? These battle-scarred veterans didn't survive decades of warfare by being stupid. And they didn't earn their scars by being merciful. Between assassination attempts, political schemes, and a royal family that makes rattlesnakes look cuddly, the tribute brides are ...

It's been thirty years since the Convergence, when the dimensions aligned and combined Earth and the world of Gwyllon, known in human mythology as “Underhill”. Elven castles and ancient ruins sprouted on vacant lots and merged with existing buildings, twisting into new structures. Roads and rail systems reformed, and after the rioting, starvation and death, agriculture sorted itself and food began to flow. A new government formed of elves and men arose, a society of human tech and elven magic. Cell phones and frost giants, race cars and elven steeds, dungeons and dragons… And ...

Great characters.
Dawns characters are practical, smart and never do stupid things. They are interesting people, the plots are well developed and the pacing works very well. These are very interesting reads. Well worth downloading and experiencing.
