About this listen

Now with a new chapter!

"Everywhere militants were blowing up Christians, their churches, their shops. They threatened them with kidnapping. They promised to take their children. The message to these 'infidels': You have no place in Iraq. Pay a penalty to stay, leave, or be killed."

Sweeping from Syria into Iraq, Islamic State (ISIS) fighters have been brutalizing and annihilating Christians. How? Why? Where did the terrorists come from, and what can be done to stop them? For more than a decade, journalist Mindy Belz has reported on the ground from the Middle East, giving her unparalleled access to the story no one wants to believe. In They Say We Are Infidels, she brings the stark reality of this escalating genocide to light, tracking the stories of real-life Christians who refuse to abandon their faith - even in the face of losing everything, including their lives.

As Reading Lolita in Tehran did for Iran and We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed with Our Families did for Rwanda, They Say We Are Infidels shines light into the Middle East through the stories of everyday heroes and heroines who will not be silenced. A must-listen for anyone seeking a firmer grasp on the complex dynamics at play in war-torn Iraq and Syria, They Say We Are Infidels is the eye-opening and revelatory testimony of a journalist who heads into a war zone - and is forever changed by the people she encounters there.

After hearing, start doing!

Hearing this book was like watching Platoon. It brought a far away war up close and personal in a way that was deeply, darkly moving. It left me not just thinking, “What can I do to help?”, but actually following through to DO something to help.
The book reveals a complex people and situation in straightforward, yet compassionate prose. I felt that I was hearing the true voice of the author through the narrator, and that the people she interviewed were now my friends too. My heart ached for their losses, and hoped for their future.

Be humble and listen to this book. And the next time you go to "church" and you think the pews are uncomfortable or the air conditioning is too hot. Just remember the stories in this book.

True Faith in the Twenty-First Century

This story is unreal. If it were not true, you would be inclined not to believe it. It's a combination of evil and incompetenc. The evil is exemplified by those who hate with irrationality. Incompetence is seen in American leadership, when they refuse to protect the innocent. What is equally outrageous is the silence of Islamic nations who know these atrocities are taking place but they say nothing. A global community should demand better. One day Jesus will.

I learned a lot from this book! I didn't realize how many minorities there were in Iraq & how long they'd been there.

Shocking

Mindy Belz spent time as an “Imbed” reporter, making numerous trips to Iraq, Kurdistan & Syria, discovering the devastation of ISIS. The brutality of ISIS exceeds that of the Nazis & worse. They won’t quit their jihad until all their enemies are brutally subjugated, dead or ISIS is killed. There is no surrender with them.
Despite this, many Christians, knowing they are targeted, choose to stay, pray, minister to and love their enemies. They choose not to fight back.
Meanwhile the west, including the USA, refuse to get involved. They refuse to except that they created this mess.
