About this listen

Martyrs to hypochondria and general seediness, J. and his friends George and Harris decide that a jaunt up the Thames would suit them to a ‘T’. But when they set off, they can hardly predict the troubles that lie ahead with tow-ropes, unreliable weather-forecasts and tins of pineapple chunks – not to mention the devastation left in the wake of J.’s small fox-terrier Montmorency.

Three Men in a Boat was an instant success when it appeared in 1889, and, with its benign escapism, authorial discursions and wonderful evocation of the late-Victorian ‘clerking classes’, it hilariously captured the spirit of its age.

A Delightful Way to Spend An Evening😊

If Mark Twain had been British, he might have written this. You will laugh out loud, in spite of yourself. Highly recommend.

If you are a fan of doctor house and his humor you will enjoy this

Hugh Laurie is an excellent actor and the way he reads this book makes you laugh continuously. It’s true some jokes are more obvious and others hit you after a while but overall it has been an enjoyable story. Quite short for me - but enough to forget you’re stuck in the traffic jam 😅

Humor and wisdom in every line

A classic, done justice by Bertie Wooster, along with his mates and an irascible mutt. Poetry, philosophy, humor and downright thickness all in one rollicking adventure.

This is an abridged version

The original version of "Three Men in a Boat" contains many more musings about history, country side and the meaning of life.

Love Hughes Laurie reading this English classic

Love Hughes Laurie reading this English comedy classic gold. Very British indeed. They could be the Kardashians

Brilliant narration of a dull, dull book

I know how much of a classic this is, but Three Men is a tedious book. There is nothing I like about it. Laurie's narration is, however, fantastic. The peak was the gloomy, forlorn performance of "two black eyes". I actually giggled, at long last.

hilarious book wonderfully narrated

I know this version is abridged but nobody can read this better than Hugh Laurie. He has the right tone, the right voice, the right everything. Now the story is about these three bumbling men decide they need a vacation and that a trip on the river is just the ticket—only it's not so idyllic as they imagined. If you're a fan of PG Wodehouse, you'll love this!
