Publisher's summary

Steeped in blood. Ruled by those with dragons.

Cimeren is a world divided by a mysterious forest and the vast Lake on Fire. Suspicion brews on both sides, and the south has fallen into chaos as battles and quarrels rage between kingdoms.

In the border outpost of Nevergrace, Cyran Orendain is dealing with the loss of his brother and his lord as he strives to face the mounting challenges of a squire of the dragonguard.

When Cyran's guard master is called to face the most powerful of the southern kings and bear witness to a secret stolen from the north, Cyran is dragged into a war that has been bubbling under the surface for centuries.

Dragons are not only weapons—they are engines of war. Even though Cyran is not trained in the ways of the dragonguard, he must adapt and learn to become one of them or his homeland and all of Cimeren will be destroyed.

He was not born a champion. He may break, and he will bleed.

A thrilling new epic fantasy adventure

This voice actor has an alluring style and performs some amazing character voices.

Dragons fighting with archers and bolts where you can feel what it would be like and experience the sensation. I loved all the main characters each in their own good or evil ways. Many twists will unfold but I don't want to include spoilers. Lots of intrigue with superb writing of dragons and battles and magic and deception. It gets bloody sometimes but nothing spicy.

It reminded me of Lord of the Rings, Stormlight archives, A Game of Thrones, and The Wheel of Time series.

An enthralling dark and imaginative fantasy world

The most exhilarating and unique dragon story I've read. What cool concepts. I've heard this is being made into a video game.

The world building in this dark epic fantasy tale is phenomenal. Great characters and insane plotting with twists you won't see coming. Original ideas and dragons. Not the same old same old epic fantasy tale, although there are throw backs to Lord of the Rings, A Game of Thrones, and Eragon, but with new takes on each.

The story starts without tons of action, if you only like to listen to fantasy fighting tales, but it is captivating and delightful with the dragons, characters, and world building. Then when the action ramps up, it doesn't let go, like edge of your seat type of stuff.

The performance by the narrator is above and beyond. His voice draws you in and wraps you up so you can't turn it off. The voices he does are also top notch.

Great story and narration

I read the kindle version of this book after it came out last year and loved it, it was one of the best fantasy stories I’ve read in quite some time. I don’t listen to audiobooks much at all but figured I’d give this one a shot as I enjoyed the book so much. And it’s fantastic! The voice actor does an amazing job and really brings a great story to life. I strongly recommend giving this a try.

Confusing

The baseline of the story is good, but there is too much going on. I feel in a rush to have so much in the story there are sections that aren’t explained or that are gloss over. One element will be introduced to the story in one chapter just to be completely disregarded and not brought up anymore in the book.
