Publisher's summary

Kingdoms burn. Heroes soar.

At the decimated outpost of Nevergrace, Cyran Orendain and his companions stand watch. They search for the Dragon Queen's remains while awaiting the full onslaught of Murgare's retaliation. But some of their own turn against them, and a village is ravaged by whatever lurks in the woods.

With the young lady of the Never by her side, Cyran's sister Jaslin arrives at the king's city of Galvenstone to answer a summons. She will find the answers to the queen's murder and the darkness lurking beneath the streets, no matter what—or who—stands in her way.

Meanwhile, Pravon the dragon thief follows the unpredictable dragon assassin across the lands of Cimeren, hunting down emissaries who seek to bring peace to the kingdoms. For only one path can stop the coming war, and they will ensure this path is never found.

Only those at Nevergrace sense the coming dangers—that which stalks the far side of the Lake on Fire and that which prowls within the forest.

The growing shadows will consume all of the kingdoms and cover the lands in blood and dragon fire.

A new imagining of dragons!

The dragons in this story have their own breeds and magic and use for battle as well as their own thought and emotion. You'll fall in love with them, their uniqueness and complexity as well as the characters. There is so much going on here, which makes it hard to distill down into a brief review.

Action, magic, thieves, assassins, dragons, epic battles, dragon archers, jousts, mystery, and answers. All the questions you had in book 1 are answered here, and those answers will probably shock you no matter what you were thinking or thought you were expecting for this story. The main character Cyran does not just stay as a same type of dragon guard, he progresses into a new breed, lifting the action to new heights. I can't wait to see where he goes from here. Jaslin and Sirra also grow and adapt, and sides shift, with hints of more progression fantasy to come.

One of the great epic fantasies I've experienced.

Amazing Sequel

This book has a great story that’s full of twists and turns, but it’s made so much more enjoyable by the amazing characters and how they are developed throughout the tale. The narrator does a phenomenal job building the tension and bringing the scenes to life. I couldn’t stop listening. I read the kindle version when it was released earlier this year and loved it but hearing it out loud just seems to increase the excitement even more.

MY FAVORITE DRAGON FANTASY!!!

This story takes you on a wild ride of characters, emotion, plot, and fantastical elements unlike any you've encountered.

The characters are deep and complex, the world building absolutely mesmerizing and real and original, the plot full of twists I haven't read the likes of since A Game of Thrones, the dragons unlike any I've encountered, as well as how they are used in war.

The multiple magic systems are awesome! Knights and archers and warriors and viking-like barbarians, and dragon thieves and assassins? What else could you ask for?

This one will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time without the world building needed to set up the story in the first installment. Amazing performance as well. Tip my hat to Ben Farrow.

A must read or listen for any avid fantasy buff. This one will be on the big lists soon, probably bumped up once the video game comes out.
