About this listen

There are times in your life when you know everything has changed, and no matter what you do, you can never go back to who you were before that moment. For me, that moment happened when a former Navy SEAL nicknamed "Cowboy" escorted me to the dance floor at my sister’s wedding, then walked away once the song was over. See, I had a big problem. I was 17. He was 32. And I loved him. But I wouldn’t always be 17, and one day, Jesse Compton would love me. I’d make sure of it.

Phenomenal

This is the prequel to a new series that crosses over from D.L.'s Cedar Point series. I'm a fan of this author, and love her writing style. She hooks you and never lets you go until the end. And she will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions along the way.

This story has all the longing and heartache of young love with the added twist of the heroine, Tinsley, falling for an older man. He's her brother-in-law's best friend and former Navy Seal, Jesse. The push and pull between the two and their fight for her to make him love her while he already secretly does but fights not to, draws you in. Your heart will ach for her and cheer her on. And the intrigue to know more about Jesse, or Cowboy as his friends call him, made me want to hear his book now. But, I must wait for that. Overall, this was the perfect start to a new series I am eager to dive into.

Both narrators did a fantastic job, and made all the feels happen. Andy Garcia-Ruse is a new narrator for me and I enjoyed her voice. Eric Bryan Moore is a favorite of mine and never disappoints. I highly recommend this audiobook and can't wait to hear how things turn out for Tinsley and Jesse, positive it will be one heck of a good read/listen.

Age-Gap

This novella has no HEA or HFN. Tinsley has been in love with Jessie who is fifteen years older since she was seventeen years old. I felt bad because her inexperience and naiveté has her making poor choices trying to get his attention and notice. He is attracted to her, but knows he can't have her. The narrators did a great job.

Just the prequel!💜

I had to remind myself that I usually end up reading the series first before the prequel is even released. So in that regard this was a great beginning of what I’m hoping will be a great series. I’m pretty much clueless of what the series is to this prequel, because like I said, the prequel almost never comes first for me. 😂 That said, this story while heartbreaking, still didn’t quite have enough angst for me. It definitely left me wanting more and I’m super excited to start book 1. The narration was wonderful from Andy Garcia-Ruse, even though I was expecting more from Eric Bryan Moore. 😊
This a prequel and is not a standalone.
I recommend this book.

Great Prequel!

This is a prequel to Delta Security series, a spin-off series from D.L. Lane’s Cedar Point series. This is a great introduction to this forbidden romance. I loved Jesse (Cowboy) and Tinsley's short prequel. Tinsley is beautiful, young, and determined. Cowboy is her brother-in-law's best friend. Jesse (Cowboy), a former Navy Seal, is enigmatic, and very protective. The supporting characters are interesting. Andy Garcia-Ruse and Eric Bryan Moore did a great job with the narration. Looking forward to listening to Cowboy, the next book in the series, to know what happens next.

A Captivating Prequel! Fantastic Story & Listen🎧

This is a fantastic start and introduction to the “Delta Security” series and some of their members. The story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it straight to the end. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to, connect with, and I am looking forward not only see more of them but learn more about them in rest of the series. Seventeen-year-old Tinsley Southerland has a mad crush on Jesse Compton aka Cowboy and him escorting her to the dance floor at her sister’s wedding sealed the deal. Except Jesse is thirty-two, in his eyes too old for her and forbidden, but Tinsley is not accepting that she is not giving up on him and will just bide her time. But age isn’t the only reason Jesse wants to keep her at a distance, his job is another reason it puts him in a lot of dangerous situations and he does not want to bring her into his world. Instead, he watches over her from a distance, and steps in when warranted, whenever she needs help. This book is mostly in Tinsley's point of view, but Jesse does chime in and, oh boy, when he does it is swoon worthy, I can’t wait to get more of him and to see how it all plays out. There is never a dull moment in this wonderfully plotted story, it has the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions and the start of a romance that is going to be epic. D.L. Lane, thank you for this fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Andy Garcia-Ruse and Eric Bryan Moore are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, gave each a voice that suited that character’s persona and was believable in every role they played. Garcia-Ruse’s Tinsley was spot on, she grasped her youthfulness, her longing for Jesse, as well as her determination. Moore played a swoon worthy Jesse with perfection, grasped all sides of his personality, his broodiness and protectiveness. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they capture all the characters’ emotions and project them into their performance, having you feel every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the amazing listen.

Prequel

This is the prequel to Cowboy. I did not read Cowboy first. To me the story was really fast. Tinsley starts out in high school when she develops feelings for Cowboy. During her college years she tells him she loves him. Throughout the book Cowboy doesn’t seem interested due to the 15 year age gap. This does set up the next book.

I listened to the audiobook both narrators did a great job at expressing feelings of their characters.

Great taste of what is to come!

There is nothing better than a romance like this one. The beginnings of a relationship, are always hopeful, and Tinsley is holding her heart on her sleeve for Jesse Compton. Her brother-in-law's best friend, Cowboy as he is known is 15 years her senior and has no intention of acting on this teenager's crush. But there is something about her that keeps drawing him back to her. A few stolen kisses and the ability to watch over her has to be enough. But as the years go by, this is becoming increasingly difficult. A few twists and turns keep them crossing paths, but will they ever be together? I am loving this prequel. It's just a tease, a little taste that has me craving the first book in this series. It promises suspense and forbidden love, and I cannot wait to hear DL Lane's message in their story! Bring it on!

Andy Garcia-Ruse is Tinsley and she is fantastic! New to me, I was excited to hear a new adult voice that is realistic in it's emotional pull , drawing me in and keeping engaged. She easily transitions between characters with distinguishing voices and the performance is amazing. Epilogue by one of my favorites, Eric Bryan Moore gives us a taste of Cowboy's point of view with all the feels. It's giving me something to look forward to and I am excited!

This certainly whets the appetite for Cowboy!

Looking forward to the ‘real deal’ in the book Cowboy!
This book gives the background to the relationship between Tinsley and Jesse. She’s been in love with her BIL best friend, Jesse, for what seems like forever but he uses their 15yr age gap as a stop sign. The feelings are there on both sides but will Jesse allow anything to happen?

Age is just a number

This book was so good. Watching cowboy (Jesse) go through his inner struggles about leaving Tinsley alone and watching over her broke my heart. Seeing how broken he was and listening to his past made me want him to give in so bad and accept Tin’s love. I can’t wait for the next to book to come out so I can see how he handles the killer of his loved one and what happens next for him a land tin. The narrators read with so much emotion I felt the love and the rawness. D.L.Lane knows how to write and keep you hooked and wanted more. Hope the wait isn’t too long for the next lol

I loved that it spanned several years

I really enjoyed this story. I liked that Tinsley grew up 2 years over the span of the book. The narrators were excellent. I enjoyed the female narrator’s voice. The male was okay. Tinsley grew into a young woman throughout the story. Jesse fought his affection throughout the story. I enjoyed hearing his perspective in the epilogue. His pain was evident. I look forward to listening to Cowboy, and have added it to my tbr!
