About this listen
Throughout the history of the WWF, there have been times of prosperity and times of hardship, cycles that shape the ethos of the company by forcing changes to its infrastructure and on-screen direction. The one constant throughout three decades of change is Vincent Kennedy McMahon, the stalwart puppet-master who captains the ship. Unflinching, thick-skinned, and domineering, McMahon has ultimately outlasted all of his competition and come out on top of every wrestling war he has waged.
In 1995, he very nearly lost.
Titan Sinking tells the tale of one of the most tumultuous, taxing and trying years in WWF history. Vince was reeling from a nightmare first half of the decade as the year commenced, but having seemingly steered the company through an image-shattering five years, he looked to rebuild his ailing brand and rediscover the magic formula that made his promotion such a juggernaut in the 80s. As each week passed, more and more problems behind the scenes began to unfold, plunging the WWF on the bring of crisis.
This audiobook gives the inside story of all of it: With detailed accounts of incidents from Syracuse to Montreal, from the Kliq to he BSKs, Vince's new hope, to his various creative flops and failures. Find out the real story of the year, and learn how 1995 brought WWF to the brink.

Story
Nitro is a story about much more than WCW and the Monday Night Wars. It is a story of an era, a time in which the media and cultural landscape precipitated - and later supported - pro wrestling's mainstream popularity. It is a story of how a company made in the image of an intuitively brilliant risk-taker betrayed its original promise. It is a story of how a handful of men, each struggling with their own limitations, facilitated a public obsession that changed television forever.

Story
For decades, wrestling was shrouded in secrecy. It had larger-than-life personalities, bone-crunching physicality and jaw-dropping theatrics, but backstage, it was an industry devoid of outsiders. Then in 1999, after working together on a special for MTV, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson turned to 26-year-old television writer Brian Gewirtz and asked, “You ever consider writing for WWE?” That question, and its answer, would have a profound effect on both of their lives for years to come. There's Just One Problem is a story about perseverance, tenacity, and steel chairs.

He was the most vicious, bloodthirsty, reviled villain in the history of the ring. During the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, he drew record crowds everywhere he went and left a trail of burned and bloody opponents in his wake. But what those legions of fans screaming for his head never knew was that The Sheik was really Eddie Farhat. The son of Arab immigrants, Farhat served his country proudly in World War II and was fulfilling the American dream. When he wasn't screaming unintelligibly and attacking his enemies, he was busy being the owner and operator of World Wide Sports.

ECW was one extreme contradiction piled on top of another. It was an incredibly influential company in the world of professional wrestling during the 1990s, yet it was never profitable. It portrayed itself as the ultimate in anti-authority rebellion, but its leadership was, at various points, working covertly with the two wrestling giants, the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling. Most of all, it blurred the line between real life and the fantasy world of professional wrestling like no other company before it.

In 2017, after being told that no independent wrestling group could draw a crowd of more than 10,000, a group of wrestlers took up the challenge. For several years, these gladiators had been performing in front of rabid crowds and understood the hunger for wrestling that was different from the TV-slick product. In September 2018, they had the numbers to prove it: 11,263 fans filled the Sears Center Arena for the All In pay-per-view event, ushering in a new era. A year later, WWE had its first major head-to-head competitor in nearly two decades when All Elite Wrestling debuted on TNT.

The best wrestling book on Audible
Titan Sinking is an epic wrestling book that chronicles the tumultuous year of 1995 for the Federation. The book takes you backstage for all the dirt and drama you’d expect from a book like this. At first I thought the book would be a WWF hit piece, but that’s not the case. This book can be very critical, however, it’s done based on evidence and what was going on at the time. The main wrestlers of this era, Bret, Shawn, Taker, Nash, Hall, HHH, and others are chronicled masterfully. Enjoy!

Excellent Walk Down Memory Lane
Listening to this story was a great walk down memory lane. There were two aspects to this story for me, remembering watching WWF with my father on the couch, and learning about the behind the scenes activities at the height of when I was watching wresting. I could have assumed but didn't know how much drama, scandal, and politics were involved in wrestling. This was definitely eye opening as James Dixon is very knowledgeable and clearly details all the activities with great description. Dean Ruple did a great job with the narration. I really liked his voice and cadence and kept my interest throughout the book. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Accessible for Casual Fans
As someone who fondly remembers the Monday night wars but has watched little since, this book painted a vivid and eye opening picture of the company and characters of the time. The author writes in such a way that the large cast of wrestlers never becomes overwhelming or confusing, which seems a great accomplishment. The narrator does an excellent job presenting everything in a fashion that does not intrude, but still brings life to the people involved.
I highly recommend this book, and will look for work from the author and narrator in the future. Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
