About this listen

Over 40 million Americans have seen Dateline NBC's ongoing "To Catch a Predator" series, with an average of 11 million viewers per episode. So far, the Dateline series has led to the arrest of over 200 men and has shown that child predators can be anyone: even those who are the most trusted in the community, including rabbis and teachers.

In his book To Catch a Predator, Chris Hansen, the on-air correspondent for one of Dateline's most successful series, looks deeper into the world of child predators. The book expands beyond the Dateline series to include more commentary from psychological and criminal experts about the origins and methods of child predators, and includes substantive advice for both parents and children on how to protect kids who use the Internet. Hansen also looks at the current methods for treating child predators. To Catch a Predator presents a strong analysis of what some feel is a child-predator epidemic and a startling look at the shortcomings of our systems and society.

Much better than you'd think

This book doesn't just rehash the sensational elements of the television show, but talks with law enforcement, psychiatrists, and even the sick people in question.

What's really surprising is that the book teaches mercy, and supports its own argument.

A disturbing yet interesting read

Upon first glance one may think this book has aged like milk, however it is still relevant and important to this day. Today kids are on the internet all the time as smart phones and gaming devices have now allowed all of us to be connected 24/7. While the book is over ten years old, it still feels relevant and not just to the show. The book looks past the show at the bigger picture of keeping our kids safe. Anyone who misses the old show or just wants to be informed will find this interesting but also disturbing. Unlike the show, the book does not censor what these men say, combine this with the examples of real life events where there was no decoy and no Chris Hansen, this can often leave you feeling a mixture of sadness and disgust. So let that be your warning. If you can make it past the graphic nature of this book you should walk away from this feeling more informed.

As usual Chris Hanson is the best

Typical Chris Hanson work. Very well done, just like the Dateline series. Full of good information and things to consider for our own kids and grandkids.

Great book!

I loved the writing and storytelling, and the voice actor was very good. This audiobook talks about men the show has caught, families of predators, people who try to help the cause, police detectives who investigate these crimes, and gives actionable advice to teens and parents on how to stay safe online. The storytelling is amazing, and transitions easily from one story to the next. I’m going to see if Chris Hansen has other audiobooks because this was so good!
