About this listen

In 2007, the US Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade posted to northeastern Afghanistan's Kunar Province. Battle Company, the best within the Brigade, was assigned the toughest Area of Operations. It was called the Korengal Valley. During their 15-month tour, Battle Company saw more combat than any unit since Vietnam. Raw and unapologetic, To Quell the Korengal is a first-hand account of life on the front lines. Written by a grunt on the ground, it is rife with gun fights, grueling foot patrols, a villainous company commander, the austere routines of the American soldier, and the kind of humor only found in war.

Though equally appealing to combat-hardened listeners, the story is told in a manner any civilian can comprehend. It was the author's wish that the book could serve as a bridge of understanding for a veteran's wife or mom, or anyone curious about the conflict and sacrifices of our nation's troops.

Narrator did an amazing job of describing life and conditions in combat. A good followup to the book of Chosen Company's experience in the same region.

Excellent

A good rendition of been there, done that. Nicely put in Real World Language not sugar-coated or sanitized.

truest form of grunt-speak here

As a paratrooper, jumpmaster, Rakkasan, Red Devil medic, this brought back memories both good and bad. The hours upon hours of shear boredom and insane moments of of sure death, your body taking control without being told what to do, like shuffling to the door and that black abyss the nights sky. The fear of death, numbness, acceptance, guilt, immense sadness, wishing it was over, counting down the days, only to wish you were back once again with your friend. Shadex's account of the wild ride of emotions were spot on, being medevac ed out of Bagram and theater felt as if I had been robbed, not being able to be with my friends and family. God bless you Shadex, A co., B co. and C Co. charlie mike brother.

I appreciated the choice of words throughout the entire book, I could not stop listening to the story of a fellow Rock infantryman out of Vicenza. Enough said.

This should be required reading for current/former Rock paratroopers

Excellent book, the sacrifices what these soldiers and their families went through are so unappreciated. Maybe someday we'll give them the credit they deserve and honor them by standing.

Breaks my heart.

Author comes across and complaining quite a bit, and it’s gets annoying until you remember that he wrote this during his deployment and that’s the way it was when they were there. Overall worth a credit.

Pretty good Afghanistan book

What an amazing account. My new favorite read. Narrated beautifully as well. Nice to hear an account and insight into what everyday life was like from someone who lived it.

Amazing insight
