About this listen

Love Is Blind meets You’ve Got Mail in this laugh-out-loud romantic comedy following two thirty-somethings who meet on a blind dating app - only to realize that their online chemistry is nothing compared to their offline rivalry.

Perpetually cheerful and eager to please, Gracie Cooper strives to make the best out of every situation. So when her father dies just months after a lung cancer diagnosis, she sets aside her dreams of pursuing her passion for art to take over his Midtown Manhattan champagne shop. She soon finds out that the store’s profit margins are being squeezed perilously tight, and complicating matters further, a giant corporation headed by the impossibly handsome, but irritatingly arrogant Sebastian Andrews is proposing a buyout. But Gracie can’t bear the thought of throwing away her father’s dream like she did her own.

Overwhelmed and not wanting to admit to her friends or family that she’s having second thoughts about the shop, Gracie seeks advice and solace from someone she’s never met - the faceless “Sir”, with whom she connected on a blind dating app where matches get to know each other through messages and common interests before exchanging real names or photos.

But although Gracie finds herself slowly falling for Sir online, she has no idea she’s already met him in real life…and they can’t stand each other.

Too much like You’ve Got Mail

How has she not been sued? Even the text convos sound the same.
If it was minimally original I would still have an issue with all of the descriptions of outfits and remodels. Great for extending word count but annoying. Also, this thirty-something is emotionally thirteen. Ooo, another unoriginal storyline… run with it!

Too Similar

Sadly, this story was too similar to You’ve Got Mail. Unimaginative. It would have been a cute story if it hadn’t already existed…

Faithful retelling if You’ve got Mail

One of my favorite movies growing up was “The Shop Around the Corner” with Jimmy Stewart. When it was remade as “You’ve Got Mail”, I again loved the story. Lauren Layne has basically written her own version, and I found it delightful. I do miss the steam of her previous books, but this is one I can recommend to anyone.

Narrator wasn't great

I'm sure she's a lovely person and is great in other books. This narration though just about made me stop a few times. The book is fun.

Adorable

Obviously a retelling of “You’ve Got Mail,” but absolutely adorable and worth your time. Just a feel good listen that got me through a day of otherwise boring house work.

Cute

The story was cute, by the end, but I quickly grew to hate the clueless brat, Gracie, with a quick, vicious temper and tongue. It was mentioned how sweet Gracie was, several times, and how kind she was to everyone. Two very different personalities? I think the “conflict” could have been handled in a much better way.

Cute and sweet, Clean, Romance/Chick lit book!

What a fabulous, adorable and cute book from my favorite romance/chick lit author Lauren Layne!
At first when I started reading I thought it was moving so very, very slow, and I wasn't sure if I was liking it very much. The story was interesting, but really slow to start. Not at all what I'm used to from Lauren Layne. But as I read on I fell in love with the characters Gracie Cooper, and Sebastian Andrews. The story went into detail about each character, their past, and their family that came together for one fabulous ending. I just LOVED the ending! Great story, writing and character development by the author. I read the kindle version (ARC) and then started to like the book so much after one fourth through the book, that I purchased the Audible version so when I couldn't read I could listen. Excellent narration by Rachanee Lumayno and Shaun Taylor-Corbett. I HIGHLY recommend the Kindle or Audiobook to anyone who loves a clean romance/chick lit story with no foul language or graphic sex scenes.
