Publisher's summary

They see a brokenhearted widow.

She's far from shattered.

Lady Philippa Winston is never marrying again. After her late husband's cruelty that she kept so well hidden, she has no desire to search for love.

Years ago, Miles Brookfield, the Marquess of Guilford, made a frivolous vow he never thought would come to fruition - he promised to marry his mother's goddaughter if he was unwed by the age of 30. Now, to his dismay, he's faced with honoring that pledge. But when he encounters the beautiful and intriguing Lady Philippa, Miles knows his true path in life. It's up to him to break down every belief Philippa carries about gentlemen, proving not only that is love real but that he is the man deserving of her sheltered heart. Will Philippa let down her guard and allow Miles to woo a widow in desperate need of his love?

Beautiful love story!

I think I loved ‘To Woo a Widow” the most! It wasn’t a nasty Duke where the Lady was always changing him..but it was a gentle ‘Miles’ who loves Philipa—whether she’s a widow or not! This part of the series from Christi Caldwell makes you believe that LOVE is real and NOT just having your family want you to marry someone you’ve know since you were a child because of traditions, and passing on a ‘name’. It was beautiful 💕💕

As was Tim Campbell’s narration as in EVERY Christi’s book, except 2‼️ He’s fabulous!! When I finally finish this serious, I’m really going to be sad..please keep them coming Christi 💕💕 5 stars ⭐️

The narrator

The narrator, Tim Campbell makes or breaks a story. His ability two inflect and change his town to adapt to each character is nothing short than genius. His abilities make the story. I find myself searching for stories narrated by Tim Campbell. Not to minimize the actual storyline by the author but the storyline is enhanced by the narrator.

Short & Sweet

Yes, I know that the stories are somewhat predictable but you know that going in. Moreover, that's why we read listen to these 'fairy tales' after all! I enjoy CC's books but have to admit: Tim Campbell is what makes them even more special. There are some author/narrator combos that just go hand-in-hand & this is one of them. Well done :)

A heart wrenching story of finding love.

A great story of how domestic violence affects families and how they finally pull out of the cycle and find acceptance and love. Cristi Caldwell brought me to tears with this beautiful story which the marvelous Tim Campbell brought to life with wit and passion.

Awesome

I fell in love with Miles myself, and he was just exactly what she needed the whole story. It was just wonderful the two little girls and the two main characters were just beautiful. I loved it. Absolutely loved the whole story as well fact it’s so good that I listen to the second time and probably will listen to it more times than that it was that good that awesome I think the author, and I also think the narrator, I love Tim Campbell besides Sam Elliott, Tim Campbell has a clear sexy as heck voice I love listening to his stories

A Fairytale Come True

This is a poignant story of a young widow and her two small children. Phillipa is a young widow who is just finishing her mourning period for a husband who had only given her life abuse and unhappiness. Her daughter, Faith, wanders away from her mother in Hyde Park while picking flowers and is saved by a handsome and kind Marquis, Mikes. He shows her daughter a tenderness that had. Ever been shown to her by her own father when he lived. Phillipa is warmed but wary and rushes her daughter back to their carriage. On the way, she steps I. A rabbit hole and injures her ankle. The Marquis comes along and scoops her up and takes her home to recover. Their chance meeting in the park leads to more visits and Scandalous speculation by the ton. Phillipa has no interest in either elicit affairs or another marriage. Neither can deny their attraction to each other. However,a secret keeps her from ever considering another marriage and a happily ever after.

I had already read the book. But the audio version gave me even more appreciation. Highly recommend!

OK book with good narration..

After reading To Trust a Rogue and finding it OK I decided to try this short story. I was surprised to read the exact phrasing in this story and that it was repetitive, too, for it only being 138 pages. I mean, we were told 7 times that Philippa was married 6 years, like that was necessary, and that Miles had ginger hair 9 times but I couldn’t tell you what color hair Chloe or Gabriel or Jane or either of the mothers had.

Philippa did go from a weak, proper woman to having some backbone, thanks to Miles, Jane and Mrs. Wollstonecraft’s book.

Of course, there was insta-love but that can’t be helped in 138 pages. (It’s insta-love in 300 page books that I can’t stand.)

Anyway, this was the story about a woman who went from a brutal father to a cold unfeeling husband who saw her as nothing but a baby-maker. They’d been married 6 years and she’d been pregnant 8 times and only had 2 daughters. Philippa had nearly died a couple of times but Calvin did care, all he wanted was a son.

There was one explicit sex scene, that didn’t include intercourse.

As to the narration. Tim Campbell always does a good job with voices and emotions. He even did a great job with Faith, who was 5 years old, and Violet who was only a year old.

Silly

Any additional comments?

The plot was thin and silly. Also over the top and unbelievable. It was not awful, but also not memorable. Just a so-so story.
