About this listen

Was it one night of passion...

When Lady Serena Boyce's husband, the elderly duke of Warrington, could not give her an heir, he begged her to take a lover in order to conceive a child. She never dreamed it would mean falling in love. One look at the handsome stranger who rescued her from a thief and virginal Serena was overcome with desire. Dark and compelling, Lucien Clayborne, marquess of Daneridge, was everything her honor warned her against. Yet the anguish in his soul drew her nearer...and before the night was through, she had gifted him with her innocence

...or a love they were destined to share?

Then the duke was murdered, and Lucien discovered that Serena was pregnant. Still reeling from the death of his cherished daughter and enraged by his first wife's callous betrayals, Lucien's honor demanded he make Serena his bride. But the rapture of their one night together had unlocked feelings he thought his heart had forgotten. Now, a chilling evil threatened their chance to claim a love that promised to last a lifetime.

Contains mature themes.

Serena and Lucien

First of all I loved the Narrator!
I enjoyed this book and the characters. Each character had a painful past. I liked the storyline and drama and angst. I will definitely listen to this book again.

Good story. Interesting plot twists. Great narrator!

I love the narrator! Will listen to anything by Tim Campbell! Good story, slightly predictable and the heroine was somewhat whiny but all in all enjoyable.

Serena was stupid.

I enjoyed the storyline. It was good, but the main character was unbelievably stupid. Everyone around her had a brain, but not her.

Left hanging!

What sex was the baby she was carrying? Usually there is an epilogue that ties up everything at the end, but we are left hanging with lots of unexplained things and even more questions. Apparently, there is no sequel. Interesting storyline and excellent narration, though.

Okay story.

SPOILERS!

If the heroine could have forgotten who her mother was and what she had done, the story would have been much better. Instead for awhile it seemed that every other sentence made reference to her fallen mother. Yuck! And then the hero. If he could have loosened up a little instead of being a tight ass he might have been happier sooner. But not only did he keep comparing his wife with his ex wife, he kept comparing her to every other woman who had wronged a man and there are a lot of those! This story is based on miscommunication which I find boring and frustrating. I hate stories which have the protagonists circling around each other most of the book and finally decide to open up to each other at the end so they can live happily ever after. And what happened to Kathy? She was obviously dragged off to be raped but God forbid that the couple don’t go and find her, see if she survived or not, take her home, get her a doctor, take care of her, etc. No, they just climb in their carriage and go home like they were the only ones under threat. Please! And what about the men who were guarding her? Wouldn’t it have been good reading to find out if any of them had survived? Good premise; Bad presentation.

It's Complicated

Overall, it's a good book but I did spend about 75%of it thinking the woman was whiny, immature, and annoying.

I’m conflicted..

Well written. I would definitely read anything this author creates, but…

If this story was intended to infuriate the reader, it did just that. I wanted to shake the woman! No woman in her right mind would allow herself to be treated so horribly, and the leading man was a monster.

We never did learn if she had a boy or girl, I’m going to assume that it was a boy and the estate went to the heir as intended. The most likable person in this story was the first husband,.. still, a good story even with all the complaining.
