About this listen

Jack Ryan, Jr. finds himself on the front lines of cyber war and in the eye of a killer storm in this thriller in Tom Clancy's number-one New York Times best-selling series.

A former U.S. senator and defense contractor needs someone to look over the books of Dalfan Technologies, a Singapore company - quickly. He turns to Jack Ryan, Jr., and Paul Brown, two employees of one of the best financial analysis firms in the country, which also happens to be the cover for The Campus, a top secret American intelligence agency.

Brown has no idea that Jack works for The Campus. Jack has no idea that the awkward accountant has been tasked with uploading a cyberwarfare program into the highly secure Dalfan Technologies mainframe on behalf of the CIA. On the verge of mission success, Brown discovers a game within the game, and the people who now want to kill him are as deadly as the cyclone bearing down on the island nation. Together, Ryan and Brown race to escape both the dangerous storm and a team of trained assassins in order to prevent a global catastrophe, even at the cost of their own lives.

Critic reviews

“[A] taut, exciting thriller.... Clancy fans can rest assured that the state of the franchise is strong." (Publishers Weekly)

“[A] turbocharged narrative.... With typhoons; deadly Chinese and North Korean operatives wielding bats, knives, and guns; and a weaponized thumb drive, the action reaches Clancy levels early and stays there.” (Kirkus Reviews)

“[Maden] proves that he knows the ins-and-outs of an action story and can certainly take readers to the edge of their seats when it comes to thrills. It’s nice to know that Tom Clancy’s creation will have more adventures ahead.” (Suspense Magazine)

Does not disappoint!

The only thing I hate the most about the Jack Ryan, Jack Ryan Jr, and Campus series are the time spent waiting for the next novel to be written and released. I devoured this book in two days... Tom would be proud that his legacy lives on.

Can't get enough Jack Ryan Jr.

Love the series and I think Maden will be great. Some of the times, like when describing the blade fighting were just outstanding, though some may think boring, I loved it. I wish there was more campus involvement. Otherwise great. Can't wait until the next book.

Better than Blackwood, not as good as Greaney

Seemed to make out Jack Jr to be a lot less intelligent than other books in the series. It was worth a read but I really like Mark Greaney's contributions to the series better. Can't go wrong with Scott Brick on narration.

Good but....

Good story, but I felt like the end was rushed. Jack left on the motorcycle and .........the next we see him he is talking to the ex senator.

Slow ...

This book is a bit like being on a treadmill for a very long time with a "jack in the box" springing out of the console at the end. More specifically, this is one of those thrillers that takes place in a small geography with a small cast and feels constrained right up to the end. Rather than ramping to a conclusion, the story goes from circular to overly dramatic in a chapter change. Not my favorite. Narration was excellent, but with Mr. Scott Brick onboard, we'd expect nothing less.

Clancy's Ghost

Not as good as other Clancy writers, but I like that the Jack Ryan series lives on.
