Wonderful YA Story

This is the first story I have listened written by this author . The story was interesting and very engaging. It’s such a sweet YA story of growing up and realizing yourself and what life has stored for you. I loved both Cam’s and Jake’s characters. Sarah Thompson has done a phenomenal job with narration and kept me totally hooked. She captured all the emotions and angst to the T . Definitely an enjoyable listening experience.

Great Read

Tomboy was a great quick read by Suzana Thompson. Cameron has always been a tomboy and has been seen as one of the guys. That is to everyone except her brother's best friend, Jake. One day Cam finds him in her room trying to hook up with a girl. There chemistry sparks and they see what happens. This was a great read, I loved reading Cam and Jake's story. I can't wait to read more by Suzana Thompson.

Sweet young romance

Refreshing and wholesome coming of age story that l found myself chuckling at. Nothing like a feisty girl with loads of self confidence to manage a group of feisty teenage boys. Well written and about 5 hours long. Narration by Sarak Sampino was just right and easy to distinguish the characters apart.

It wasn’t bad.

I will start off by saying that I received this audiobook for free in exchange for my honest review.

I like the author, she’s great at telling a story. After listening to Fake Boyfriend, I was excited to immediately dive into this one. It wasn’t as good as Fake Boyfriend, but it wasn’t bad.

What I liked:

Cam... most of the time.
Jake... but ONLY towards the end of the book, explanation coming.
The story... but not all of the events in it.

I didn’t like the narrator. I think her voice was very.... nasally? She wasn’t pleasant to listen to. When she read as Jake, she mostly spoke in a flat and emotionless tone and didn’t really give him a personality which I think made it so much harder to like him after... hold on a second-

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

After Cam caught Jake in her bed screwing another girl. Yes, I get they weren’t dating. Yes, I get she didn’t even realize how she felt about him just yet. But that was so disgusting! It’s one thing to let your friend borrow your bed for a hookup with your permission, it’s another for them to go behind your back and do that without your knowledge in YOUR bed. That was so gross and made him be pictured immediately as one of those nasty pervy jocks from movies. It was tough as a reader/listener to get that idea of him out of my head as the story progressed. It made even harder to believe he had been in love with her for years, considering if he even liked her the least bit he wouldn’t have been in her bed of all places with another girl.

I liked Cam, but I did hate how oblivious she was for most of the book because with all the pieces of backstory we got, there is no way the girls that dumb that she didn’t know he liked her. I also hated how she had her first kiss, and then her second, & was suddenly ready to lose her virginity just to see if she could STOP liking the guy.

I did like that she was the one pressuring Jake for sex though. I’m glad the author did that! It’s always the man you see in stories being the one pressuring, it was nice for a change since woman can be guilty of this too.

I feel like this story kind of dragged on after a certain point. Don’t get me wrong, I liked it. BUT I feel like it should have stopped on that football field when she told him he was her boyfriend now. His reaction was perfect & I thought the scene was magic.

Would I recommend it? Yes.

Sweet book

Enjoyable book of a young girl growing up and finding her first love and hoping it will become a forever love. More of a YA type feel and had an idea of how things would turn out but enjoyed listening and a sweet story of meant to be!

Brother's best friend done right!

This was a fantastic teen romance with young adult heat level. I loved this as a great "brothers best friend" tale. Enough to make this 40 yo squeal like a tween. So fun!

Cute YA Story

Cam has always been just one of the guys, despite the fact that she's a girl. She's never had a crush on a guy or felt attraction for anyone, so it shocks her when she can't get her brother's best friend Jake out of her head. Cam thinks she can get it out of her system quickly but Jake has other ideas.

This was a cute YA story, I'd recommend it for older teens due to the focus on sex. I really loved both characters, Cam doesn't care what anyone thinks and I love her confidence. I loved her friendship with Kyle. Jake was so sweet in flashbacks and the end showed how great they were together. The narration was well done and fit the story well. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

A Compelling Story for All Adults 💘

"Tomboy" is a very well-written, age appropriate, young-adult book, written by Suzana Thompson. I loved loved loved this book. Suzana appealed to not only the young-adults, but I believe the older adults who are young at heart.

Jake confessing to have feelings for his best friend's twin sister was to much for her to process. She never knew and I'm sure you can guess why the book was title; "Tomboy." Yes, because it was her, Cam was what many called a "late bloomer." As she tumbled through the trials and tribulations that this experience will take her, to finally see boys in a different light then just being their friend will become a very hard and challenging lesson.

Sarah Sampino is the narrator in this emotional transformation and does an EXCELLENCY performance! She always gives 150% of herself in her talent.

I most definitely recommend this book to others. I wish I could give more than 5-🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟's

Do not suggest for a teen

I liked this story and it didn’t have any detailed sex scenes but there is a lot of sexual happenings with the high school students. I think it would lead to more graphic and detailed reads which I believe would be inappropriate for teens to read. With that said I liked that this story was complete and went through to after college. Good story line and characters. Also not big on the homosexuality, just don’t care to read about it.

High School Memories Stirred

Suzana Thompson does an excellent job of capturing the coming of age emotions in Tomboy. Cam has always one of the guys but little does she know her twin brother's best friend, Jake, has more than friendly feelings for her. Sparks fly when she catches Jake in a compromising position in her room. As a tomboy, romance and all the trappings of being a girl have never appealed to Cam. Her parents' divorce and her absent father color her reaction to relationships but her mother is still hopeful for a lifelong love. While Jake has been waiting his entire life for Cam to be on the same page, the young man is what all mature book boyfriends should aspire to be: patient, romantic, possessive, loving, and passionate. While the road is sometimes rocky on the way to their relationship, Cam and Jake's story ends in a very satisfying way.
Ms. Thompson capture's Cam's tomboy traits well, I grew up as one so I could relate to her character, and being blindsided by a friend who has romantic feeling? She hit that shocker dead on, as well as the drama of the high school friends and the catty girls who try to break up couples. Ms. Thompson's characters are realistic, the situations real life and the story well paced. There are great family moments with the mom, great banter between the siblings, and with the couple. I'd definitely read more by this author.
Sarah Sampino does an excellent job bringing these characters to life. Her voice is smooth and when Jake was teasing Cam I could hear the smirk in her voice. I'll be watching for more books narrated by her.
