About this listen

Denver private investigator Reed Ferguson is between cases when a house fire threatens to consume the home of his girlfriend, Willie. The police think it's arson, and they look to Willie - the owner of the building - as the logical suspect. Worse yet, when a body is found in the charred third-floor apartment, the police think Willie is the killer. Reed hops into action to clear her name, but as his own list of suspects grows, so does the danger. Can Reed find the culprit who committed murder, or will his investigation go up in flames?

Always enjoy this series.

Pawlish did not disappoint with this story. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite book series and Pepper's performance is wonderful as ever. I can't wait to read and or listen to the next book.

Good Plot

Willie and Reed fall asleep in his house, awaking to see her house in flames across the street. They find a body inside the three unit house and she becomes a suspect. Reed sets out to find the killer. Good flowing plot, with some twist, good plot.

A Fire Changes Everything

Life is good for Reed Ferguson. He has a beautiful girlfriend and work is good. Then the unthinkable happens. His girfriend’s house is set afire and one of her tenants is found dead in the rubble. As usual, Reed steps up to solve the mystery. This installment has the usual twists and turns and unexpected red herrings with the surprise ending.

I have really been enjoying working my way through this series. Reed Ferguson is a likeable guy with fun and dependable friends. There is plenty of humor and references to noir movies. Reed’s obsession with film noir is endearing. His mother is a real hoot! I look forward to seeing more of him.

Johnny Peppers did an excellent job with this narration as usual. He is always a pleasure to listen to!!
