About this listen

On the trail of a dangerous energy field, Torchwood are led to Delhi. There they witness the simultaneous disappearance of hundreds of people, and Jack discovers that the field centres on an old colonial mansion - Torchwood India.

Jack is shocked to find that Torchwood India is still going strong - he shut it down himself over 80 years ago. He's even more surprised to find that its members, including his old flame the Duchess, haven't aged a day. What is the secret of their eternal youth, and how is it linked to the deadly energy field? The team must find out - and they haven't a moment to lose, for all the time the field is expanding...

Written specially for BBC Radio by James Goss, Golden Age stars John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper and Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones.

Like an extra episode of the series

I enjoyed this more than I expected to. It was as if a regular episode of Torchwood (post "Exit Wounds", pre "Children of Earth") was done as a radio play rather than a television show. Everything was done through the actors' dialog which leads to annoying bits of exposition or explanations of action (a whole lot of "They're coming closer!") but it was great to hear the familiar voices of characters I have really grown to like. If you like the series, you'll probably enjoy this dramatization.

torchwood at it's best

Would you consider the audio edition of Torchwood to be better than the print version?

all it missed was the vissual and you could be watching an episode and enjoying the bbc version.

Excellent

Honestly, at times I wasn't sure if I was listening to an audiobook or the TV show. Excellently done. As always, it is a pleasure to hear the original Torchwood actors playing their parts to perfection. Sound effects and superb writing, not to mention voice acting, make it easy to picture the action almost as clearly as seeing it on screen. Highly recommended for all Torchwood fans - though some familiarity with the characters and basic premise of the show is necessary, as not a lot of time is spent explaining things. I especially loved the play between Ianto and Gwen - it makes me smile, if not laugh outright - every time I listen to it. Which, because of its compact time, I have managed multiple times since acquiring it. There is something to be said for shortened listening times.

Oh how I miss Torchwood and Captain Jack & team.

I didn't realize how much I missed Captain Jack, Gwen, and Ianto until I listened to this short story. God I wish they would come back for another round, especially with the new female Doctor...can you imagine?

Interesting snapshot of Jack of yesteryear

Jack, Ianto and Gwen are in Delhi investigating the disappearance of literally thousands of the lower income/lower class denizens of the city. They stumble onto a private club that once held Torchwood India, a branch that Jack personally shut down 80 years ago. To the team's surprise Jack finds his old flame the Duchess hasn't aged a day, neither have any of the club members. There aren't too many shocks in this it's a fairly solid story, once again the cast is great and it is interesting to 'see' Jack's interactions with the Duchess as an example of a path he might have taken himself at one point in his life. An easily accessible one-shot that any Torchwood fan will get a kick out of, recommend for fans old and new.

Quick resolution for the build up

Story line was thin, though the topic definitely on point for Torchwood. Voice actors all did well with their parts.
