Made Me Miss the Show

This series of short stories made me miss the show so bad. I wanted to go back and bask in the good ole days of Jack, Gwen, Tosh, Ianto, Owen and Rhys all together and working as a very dysfunctional team/family to keep Earth safe. The individual stories are a bit of a mixed bag with some being better then others but overall they were well written engaging stories. I would recommend for anyone who enjoyed the show.

Loved it. I want more!!

Listening to a Torchwood audiobook allows the listener to escape into their own imagination. It works really well especially where the monster would be too difficult or cheesy to portray on film.

I thought the readers were fantastic also and I look forward to more stories.

18 hours!? For one credit!? Holy cow!

The writing for most of the stories is superb! Some of the narrators need to work on how to differentiate the sound of characters. For example, during one story, there was Toshiko, Owen, and maybe Jack or Gwen talking, and it was hard to tell who was saying what because they all sounded the same!

However, it was outstanding for some of the narrators!

I wouldn't go as far as to call this anthology a "mixed bag", because it's not! I loved it! Full kudos to the authors; the stories truly felt like Torchwood episodes! It felt a lot like watching the show! It's a wonderful book, and for EIGHTEEN HOURS!? For ONE credit!? That's such an amazing price. If you like Doctor Who and Torchwood, these stories are right up your alley!

A Little Middle of the Road

What I Liked: I was not prepared for how much I'd enjoy Kai Owen as a storyteller but he is quite the fun reader and I ended up enjoying his stories the most. He brings a certain energy and exuberance to his performances such that the stories come alive more. Or maybe his distinct manner of speech is somehow quite gripping and intriguing to some degree.

The sheer diversity of stories here was pretty great with the Torchwood team exploring all sorts of different challenges and ideas. When you put all of the stories together it almost feels like this is an additional season of the show and a chance to hear all these familiar voices telling us about their adventures.

What Could Have Been Better: That said, not everyone is the greatest of readers and some stories become harder to keep up with because it oddly becomes easy to lose focus. I know this is a minor point but it happens to me time and again with some books but especially with this collection. The first half of the stories were not as striking as the second half because of this complication.

And as a collection this is crazy long and the stories sort of blur together when you slug through it. I know it's convenient to have all the stories here but you may need to take sufficient breaks between stories so you better appreciate them. Plus it was a big loss that the stories are read as books and not performed as dramas so one person reads a story from start to finish. This is why the Kai Owens stories rather worked more - because Rhys was also a major focus in those stories so it made sense to hear him.

Never miss an episode.

Always enjoy listening to my BBC stories. Especially during election time. Never miss any of them.

Not as good as the Audio Dramas

Not nearly as good as the audio dramas, those I listen to when driving and it’s like watching a TV show. I found myself losing interest in these unfortunately.

I did not finich this book

The first few stories had a good buildup and interesting plot, that all of a sutten were finished. It annoyed me. There were a few good stories but where I dropped the book where where they reached the torchwood season 4 timeline. The part where they fucked up the series. From there on I had no interest in the rest of the stories
