About this listen

Lacey Adams lives in the small town of Magic, New Mexico, where she devotes herself to the animals at her Touch of Magic Animal Shelter. The strange assortment of animals helps heal the pain and loneliness inside her since the death of her husband three years before.

Frost is a Star Ranger. He travels the star systems, bringing intergalactic fugitives to justice. When a maximum-security fugitive escapes from the mining prison, he is sent after him. Only this time, the fugitive has violated a major law… he has traveled to a distant forbidden planet inhabited by a race that has not mastered space travel yet. Now, he is in a race to find the fugitive before those on the planet known as Earth discover there are not one, but two aliens on their world. Things become complicated when Frost discovers his heart is not as frozen as he thought when a young human female is taken hostage by the fugitive. What he doesn’t anticipate is her unexpected resistance – both to the fugitive and to him.

Frost is forced to make a decision that is guaranteed to put him on the most wanted list when he follows his heart and kidnaps Lacey. He knows that some things are worth the risk. What he doesn’t know is that Lacey has a few secrets of her own.

So Surprising!

I can't write too much here because I don't want to give anything away. This book starts out good and gets better all the way through. If you like S. E. Smith, you will love this book. If you haven't read S. E. Smith, you will be hooked. Great story, great characters, great narrator!

Great start to a new series

Would you consider the audio edition of Touch of Frost to be better than the print version?

Magic, New Mexico sounds like an interesting place to live and definitely a great world created for an unusual book. I can't wait for the next book.

Have you listened to any of David Brenin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was the first audible book that I have listened to and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Cute story about aliens meeting paranormal humans

This book/story is interesting by combining all of the supernatural paranomal beings on earth and then throwing alien "sky warriors" outer space police/bounty hunters together. Frost was a sky warrior that was about to retire with one last capture when he found he "mate" in a human.. But, he didnt know that his "mate" is a witch. He (aliens) didn't know that there were "paranormal beings" . The other worlds felt that earth was a primative backwoods world to be avoid. When Frost decides to stay on earth. But it is a violation for any beings from outer space to influence/take/interfear with primitive planets (earth). S.E. Smith mentioned that there are a couple of places on the earth where paranormal beings have communities safe from humans without powers. Magic New Mexico was just one. So I assume there are more stories from these communities in the future. But, this one was a nice one about a greiving witch (widow) finding a soul male from across the stars over coming obstacles to be together. This story had humor and conflicts that keep this mocha girl interested.

A cool new series by S E Smith

A Touch of Frost is a great start to a new and different new series that is both funny and touching with great and strong characters throughout. It had me completely engrossed from beginning to end and I didnt want to put it down.

The characters are so well done that they seem real that they could just walk in to your house and talk to you. It makes you want to believe in magic and wish there really was a town like Magic and that aliens really do exist especially if they are like Frost. His world is beautifully described and when you listen you feel you can see it clearly.

The narrator did a great job with the story and kept me enthralled over a ten hour drive so much that I didnt notice the length of the trip and didnt feel tired and want to pull over for a sleep.

I loved this new beginning and am looking forward to the next instalment and hope that the same narrator is part of the story as he did such a good job. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone looking for a different spin on the theme of love loss and triumph of spirit to reach a happy end.

Paranormal romance

While this book was certainly out of my normal listening milieu. I found the story to be entertaining. There are elements of sci-fi as well as paranormal characters. There are even moments of comedy, which made for a fast paced enjoyable listen. While I much prefer SE Smith’s regulat Sci-fi romance this was a good listen. Narration was well performed.

Not a fan of the cliffhanger.

The first book ended in a cliffhanger and now the second one but it’s still on the same characters story. I find it extremely frustrating to read books this way. I like the storyline and would like to know how it ends but does that really take three books. Maybe it’s just her writing style. I probably won’t start on another character because of this even though the brothers all seem intriguing.

Sigh.

Struggled to finish. Sorry. Like SE Smith generally, just not this one. Too undisciplined of a storyline, and borrowings from other series too obvious.

Another book narrated by the talented David Brenin

Another book narrated by the talented David Brenin
Frost is an alien and a Star Ranger. His job is to arrest or eliminate criminals from his planet. An assassin that he had already caught escaped and was enroute to Earth. So he traveled to Earth to kill the assassin before the "primitive" planet discovers that aliens are real.
Lacey runs a shelter for abused and abandoned animals. Her husband died three years before and she has vowed to never love again. Oh, and she is a witch. The entire town of Magic, New Mexico is full of paranormal-type creatures.
When Frost and Lacey meet he realizes that the tale of how his species finds a mate is real and that Lacey is his.
This is a story that includes bad guys, magic, humor, love and adorable cuteness. I read one of the books written in this world by another author and just had to go back to the original. I am ecstatic that I did.
